The changes between Oblivion to Skyrim, or even Morrowind to Skyrim for that matter, are often exaggerated by the fandom who take minor differences way out of proportion.
I'm not saying that Skyrim is the best Elder Scrolls. I'm just saying that ES has honestly been treated with more respect than Fallout over the years.
