If you want Solid's full story without playing 4 then yes. Otherwise they're really just for bragging rights and getting to know all the characters of the universe, but you didn't get the game with mgs1 so up to u buddy.

Yes. Metal Gear 1 is pretty old-school (think Zelda on the NES with a military theme) and you might need to consult a walkthrough if shit gets too obtuse for me (if Big Boss tells you to contact Schneider, dial frequency 120.79).
Metal Gear 2 on the other hand holds up pretty well and aged better than MGS1 IMO.

Yes, MG1 is pretty cool and MG2 is fucking great. In fact, MG2 introduced a lot of mechanics before MGS1 did, like crawling. That being said, you can start on MGS1 if you want but MG1 and MG2 are good games.
