Snake has always relied on his superior reactions, patience, and defensive play to win. Since this game is all about being aggressive and being more proactive he's at a severe disadvantage. The problem with SFV is that it really only highlights one playstyle/mindset and that sucks for a lot of players. Alright, I'll do that. What should I do if it's still not reading the diagonal on PC? For the record, it WILL read the diagonal if I slam down into the diagonal, but in the middle of a fight, I can't execute a QCB fast enough if I have to consciously think about activating the switches like that. Practice is not a magic way to get better.
Put two people to practice the same game, with no prior knowledge of the game, and they wont learn at the same rate. Some people are just wired for competitive games while others are not. While guy A can take anywhere from months to years before realizing "wait a minute, maybe I need to stop moving so obviously just because it's comfortable, maybe I should move in unpredictable patterns even if it stresses me out" guy B can realize this in a few days, and might not even feel stress from straining his body and mind to play at unpredictable patterns the whole match, while guy A will do it for a few minutes before tiring out and then go back to flowchart gameplay.
You seem to think getting good at fighting games is a race where everyone goes at the same speed, it's not, basically some people have to run by foot while others have rollerskaters, at which point it doesn't matter how much time you spend, you will never catch up.

SFIV wasn't a game about skill, it was a game about memorizing situations, practicing 1f link combos, and abusing OSes, and towards the end of its competitive life, it started being overly defensive as well, and time out wins started becoming more and more prevalent because of how strong defense was over offense, specially with the red focus mechanic that allowed for ever stronger punishes, if crouch tech was removed the game would have probably become more dynamic, but alas it never happened.

Yeah I think the only character where I saw noticeable variation in playstyles and not just because the one player is just doing the same thing better is Charlie and maybe Alex. I have seen people use Charlie full rush down or play some damn good keep away with him. He really feels like one of the only few actually complete characters in that game.

It also helps for when you want to play but most of your friends cannot due to work, school, or other aspects of their personal life getting in the way.
That, it's just fun being able to see how far you get against the hardest A.I. in the game.
