Declining working conditions throughout the industry has turned game development into the burger flipping of software development.
Anyone with any talent works for themselves so any type of game development that needs a large studio is worked on by unskilled idiots.
The big names in the industry suffer from George Lucas Syndrome and have (to varying degrees) forgotten that they had people under them that at times had just as much influence on the quality of a final product as they do.
