/v/ my fried has never played a single Kirby game before. He never owned a SNES so he doesn't have any nostalgia for the system, with that in mind what's the best Kirby game to play with him? I head Squeek Squad was really good, otherwise All-Stars seemed like a decent choice. Thoughts?

This. Me and my cousin used to play this all the time. Mini games with 2 player keep you playing past main stories.

Return to Dreamland has better co-op in my opinion, but super star is still my favorite.

Nightmare in Dreamland is my personal favorite. I don't really see it mentioned much though.

Any of the 3ds ones is fine too. Imo kirby is a unique experience that can be enjoyed even without nostalgia. Zelda games on the other hand, if you don't have the nostalgia for it, you can find better adventure games of a similar style.
