Wasn't there a rabbit that jumped in there?
>>
>>344548135
Why would run into a wall to begin with? That's impossible to figure out. Just admit it.
>>
>>344548373
>No room in the game is just a hallway with a dead end
>This one is
How is that not suspicious in the slightest, plus the rabbit runs back there when you're chasing it to hide and there's an extremely high chance you're going to dive into that wall while trying to dive grab it in case you really aren't the curious type.
>>
>>344546456
By chasing the rabbit and diving in by accident.
>>
How about some literal "how were you supposed to know" moments in games? Like that fucking room in the Egyptian level of Goldeneye, or that cuntbag Skulltula in Hyrule Castle where you had to play song of storms next to the tree, or in Mario 64 that you could get an additional star for completing the slide fast.
>>
How were you supposed to know that you have to play SM64 without A press?
>>
>>344546456
The rabbit runs down there and then doubles back, so a lot of people just fall into the wall. Other than that, if you aren't exploring the castle with curiosity, than you aren't doing it right.
>>
>>344548906
Isn't that the whole point? When trophies were first being introduced, I thought they were gonna be for esoteric shit like that, not for "Completing Level 1"

How is that suspicious? Do you go around in real life encountering dead end signs, thinking you wil end up in fucking Narnia if you go down this way? It doesn't make sense.

A static portion of a painting, mind you. Now kids are all about touching shit they're not allowed to right? Hence comes the paintings. That's good game design. But a fucking wall? That's not interesting in the slightest. No one would bother to check it out.

Careful with your choice of words. Kids don't "figure it out", they just happen to find it because of sheer dumb luck. They find it because they're dumb, not the other way around. A person with the least amount of common sense would inevitably not be able to find it.

You might have said not to trust them, but kids are naive & trust people regardless, especially back in 1996. Also >>344553241

>Nevertheless that's straight up harassment. Case in point, he gives you a star out of fear you're going to eat him

This is true & kids are reckless little monsters who always harass their parents. Also him giving you a star encourages you to chase him again teaching the player that you must force yourself to harass others to get what you want. It's helped me in life after all.

>That's how they do it. First they give you a legit useful tip, the next thing you know they make run into a wall

Like I said earlier, kids are naive. They are easy to manipulate & they'll learn from others they trusted earlier in life, even if it's a lie that could hurt you.

I don't understand this meme.

When you bump into a wall with a painting, the painting ripples like water. Anyone can tell "oh, paintings don't do that" and try to jump or punch at it to see what it does. There's water outside before you even enter the castle that uses this same ripple effect (albeit smaller) when you're near it.

Ocarina of Time was in development hell for half a decade. It wasn't even meant to be a N64 game, it was going to be a CD-Drive game and they developed it for that for over three years before scrapping literally everything and starting over from scratch on double time, which is why all the dating sim elements, extra dungeons and items, and OoT Part 2 (NOT MM) got scrapped.

Also, Miyamoto (who was actually an extremely competent programmer that singlehandedly made Nintendo games possible in the 90s), only actually helped with OoT towards the very end of development when time was getting extremely short. He worked on Mario 64 from the start.

On top of that, OoT is a much bigger game than Mario 64. In order to make it actually fit on a cartridge, they had to cut a shitload of corners, including cutting down on things like polygon count and textures. Compare the assets and you see.

Lastly, Mario 64's stylized design ages much better, whereas OoT's darker, more "realistic" approach doesn't.

>Kids are dumb.

Nice meme. Kids are not dumb, they are immature, but to go as far as to say that kids cannot have any deductie skills because you desperately want to bait people into replying to you is fucking stupid. Kids are surprisingly intelligent and absorb knowledge like fucking crazy and you'd know that if you raised a kid, ut since you're a literal fucking retard, It's best that you never reproduce.

Also.

>Kids don't "figure it out", they just happen to find it because of sheer dumb luck
>thousans of kids found this "secret" in a time when the internet was not, yet, mainstream without a single problem.

I kind of understand what the point you're trying to make is, but you nitpick a secret that NOBODY had trouble figuring out. I mean if it was something actually fucking stupid and ridiculously difficult to figure out, then I'd get it, but most children playing games, especially this one being one of the very first 3D environment to explore in videogame history, tend to be curious and try to find new shit to try.

Also the game already established waaaay before this point in the game that there are invisible walls and secrets, so, naturally, the player is going to explore the hub to find more.

You grasp at straws and move the goalpost constantly, there is nothing more to be said. Now good day and fuck off.

She says it out loud also.

Can we just stop pretending this is anything other than archaic video game design?

I was just supposed to know to have my volume up?

You chase after the gold bunny, and eventually hit a wall and notic is shakes like a painting. Its called good game design

L is real.

>>344566626
Yeah, that makes sense. I was going to say "why does this game look so much more vibrant and colorful and appealing where OoT looks like mud" but it's kind of obvious why.

Is the DS Mario 64 even worth playing?
>>
>>344561050
You know what sucks about modern Zeldas? You can't die.

I mean you can. But you really have to fucking actively try to die. In Zelda 1 you die every five minutes. Hated it at first, but it made it dangerous, which made it fun.

30 more stars, a handful of bonus levels and objectives such as many more rabbits, several new powerups, obviously four different characters each with their own gimmicks, and extra minigames you can play from the main menu.

Bad controls get alleviated by playing on a 3DS or emulating.

The first thing you see when you open a book is on the right-hand side. So that's page 1.

How was I supposed to know I'd need to read a random page from the manual just to learn how to start the game?

That's fucking bullshit

Achievements were never supposed to be challenges. They're meant to collect data on player progress so developers and publishers can see how far players get before stopping, what they're willing to do, etc.

If you ever see a questionable or tedious segment in a modern game with achievements, understand that it was included because a lot of players went out of their way to do the achievement in a previous game.

You know there was always those kids who would press A furiously to skip all cutscenes and dialogue.

Had a friend in gradeschool who hated Star Fox because he thought it was just a game about flying through rings. Then I saw how he started every game he played: by smashing the A button to skip all the pre-title stuff. So he unwittingly entered training mode in Star Fox every time.

There are idiots in every generation.

The only thing that ever gave me trouble in SM64 was the sixth star in Whomp Fortress. OK, so I have to blast into a fucking wall, but why does it have to be a specific part of the wall?

When you get near it, the wall ripples. The game doesn't really have (that many?) dead ends. When you're chasing the bunny for the first time, unless you've got some speedrun-like natural ability, he leads you towards that wall.

How was the egg supposed to know you'd have to wait for the sperm to come? Who the fuck designed this?
>>
>>344560324
If you had the ability, you would have searched for a longplay back then too. Games have gotten better with time, and the only thing preventing you from realizing this are nostalgia goggles that turn frustrating slogs to solve illogical and incomprehensible tasks into grand adventures. The hint shit you mention was put into manuals instead of the game because there was no space for them.
>>
>>344567901
Most games of this era had you interact with things using up or down.

Even if this was your first game, how hard is it to try out the 7 different buttons you can hit.
>>
>>344569824
At least in manuals people had to search for it instead of it being shown in your face every few seconds. This is why people hated navi in ocarina of time.

Inside cover is not a page, so:

C 1
2 3
4 5
6 7
......etc.....
>>
>>344570210
>inside cover is not a page

How exactly?
>>
>>344546456
Back in the day, walk-throughs and hints in magazines were very common, and word by mouth in school, were also the biggest databases of secrets and easter eggs.

On a further note, 12 year olds suck at video games, therefore try many times more each level and tend to uncover every corner doing so.
>>
>>344565971
Snes games have no depth
>>
>>344570532
Because it's the back of the cover. How is that at all difficult?

Shit, even then numbering rarely actually starts on the first actual page. Go open a book, a magazine, whatever. I bet the inside cover isn't numbered.

Yes, that tends to happen when the games are 2D.
