1) don't play launch, can't be arsed with the leveling holocaust during the first few weeks

4) get bored of things during last tier, quit.

For me, the problem isn't the recognition, but how poorly a job Blizzard does in making quest text be dynamic enough that NPCs "remember" you. If you run into an important lore figure for the first time in a new zone, the best you're going to get is a, "It's good to see you, <name>," regardless of your previous standing with that character.
The most recent example I can think of is that worgen chick, Fiona. I rode all around the Eastern Plaguelands in her gypsy wagon with her belf and dwarf bodyguards, and the quest chain actually made it seem like they became your friends. Then you run into them again in Draenor and they DON'T EVEN RECOGNIZE YOU. All you get is the generic, "Oh, it's the commander!" and that's all.
For how often Blizzard puts in meaningless shit like, "I haven't seen a <race> like you in a while!" you'd think they could do a little extra work and alter some NPCs' dialogue for if you've already assisted them previously.

Depends on how you look at it. Regardless of how you feel about rogues they take a lot more effort than many other classes in order to be effective, regardless of spec. In this regard Demon Hunters don't take that away from them, since you could rub your grubby Cheerios-smelling hands on the keyboard like a spastic gremlin and perform well as a DH. Rogue is still the "hard" class, even with the dumbing down in Leg.
But Demon Hunters so absorb all the leather agility drops, can rush and flip all over the map, can see stealthed units and are pretty fun to play. They also got glaives exclusively when rogues had been asking for them since BC.

out in the world they added "assault" quests which work completely different than normal quest and would have required a very large and very isolated area to test
they also added individually tracked rare spawns that give rare loot only once to each player
they added fucking unheard of multi-tap, across fucking factions, scaling health, with personally generated loot
shit like mythic dungeons, flexible scaling raids being just changed to "normal" or "heroic" and cranked the scales to accomodate anyone from 10-40 players

they took the timeless isle idea and placed it in the main world to see if that shit would work
