SCEA has to release the game from the usual trophies restriction and port the system SCEJ already made for the Japanese release of the game (Japanese version have online fine using AHP that SCEJ helped) at their expense. While they are technically optional, they might as well not be unless you plan on totally ignoring these things. There are quite a lot of these gathering quests and it's pretty agonizing at times. Arm9LoaderHax aka a9lh is a hack that loads before the 3ds OS itself even, giving it pretty much complete control over the system. This makes it possible to just run CFW on SysNand natively without needing emunand at all. I think Monster hunter is all about some self set goals.

or get good with another weapon, or play naked.
If you just finish the 'story' and feel like you are done now it's gonna be a pretty short experience.
