Struggled to stay interested in Sora and only got to chapter 2, but I'm almost done with chapter 4 of Sen and I'm enjoying it a lot. I don't _love_ it, but it's been a fun ride so far with some nice world building and characters.

Since you tried on multiple consoles it's probably not the same issue as me, but I have huge sound problems with the game. Loading times are huge, voice clips take about 10 seconds to load, and those active voice clips to alert you about treasure chests or things in the field/dungeons make the whole game stall and lag.

The game basically freezes until the voice clip loads (10 seconds, maybe a little less?) then plays it, then I can play again. I can't really do both, like you're supposed to.
The game also skips and lags when I use big, effect-heavy spells and skills.

It's definitely dying, sadly. My Ps3 is the white slim model, and I got it about 3 and a half years ago. Was working fine until late last year, where it started doing this on and off, now it does it all the time.
I think it's the hard drive more than anything, as games that load/install on the hard drive such as Ps1 classics or Cold Steel stutter or have huge loading times, while stuff like One Piece Pirate Warriors plays pretty much perfectly.
I'm playing Yakuza 5 at the moment and it's a mess, with pre-rendered cutscenes freezing every 2 seconds, holding for a second, then repeating that. As well as various sound problems and the streets disappearing then loading back in (same things that happen for GTA IV).

Yakuza 5 is a good way to check if your GPU is dying. Some of the snow in Saejima's portion of the game doesn't render correctly and appears as a black mass.
Thanks for confirming it's probably an issue on my end, even if I find it hard to believe that two separate systems less than two years old could already be showing their age.

I'm playing Saejima's portion as we speak, and I haven't noticed an issue like that. Like I said, some of the streets in Kiryu's section were just a black mass until I walked into them (then the game froze until it could load them) and the same thing happened during race missions until I reached the black area.
But yeah, that sounds a bit strange to have it happen on multiple systems. Though I don't think Cold Steel is the most polished game, so it could just be that. It doesn't sound too bothersome anyway.
I finished it last night, without having played the Trails in the Sky games. My main gripe with it was its abyssmally slow pacing. the story itself was alright since it served as world building (for an exceptionally detailed world), but there were way too many cutscenes and boring things you had to slog through.
I would really have appreciated more battles sprinkled out, because at the start of chapter 6 it was almost a full hour of cutscenes from starting the field trip day to actually beginning the field trip missions.
the last hour of the game made up for it a lot though:holy shit all of a sudden we gotmechas everywhere and then I'm piloting a super robot and it is fucking cool as hell and what the fuck everything is going to shit we got a civil war going and what the hell happens to the rest of the class, I wanna find them jesus christ
