I think it's more accurate to say that there were meant to be no clear good or bad guys, but the game was rushed. They were going to let you go to legion-controlled land, which would have had no problems with things like raiders. The idea was that while the legion did terrible things, those terrible things worked.

I really enjoyed New Vegas more than 3. The thing is that there really isnt much to do other than the main quest. I only found and did a couple of side quests and stopped playing after 35 hours. Skyrim has more side questing and misc. stuff to do to distract you from the main quest.

It's because you're too used to easy mode anon, try pushing yourself a little. Try a melee only survival run and using mods that buff guns to the point where they effectively one shot you.

It's because Bethesda games have terrible bias towards those types of builds. Literally a stealth ranged character has too many buffs and all other builds too little for any other play style to be as viable an option. They need to nerf sneak attack criticals big time, plus make it easier to be spotted/harder for enemies to unagro plus they need to code their AI with a little fucking common sense as to actually do something when their buddy has been hit and kill from nowhere instead of 10 seconds of "What!?" and then having them return to their pre-determined patrol.

Fallout's Universe has much more advanced nuclear technology, had been widespread for over a century, and depended on it more than our world ever did (They even put goddamn isotopes into Cola, and had nuclear powered cars). The world of Fallout's world wasn't just running out of stuff like oil, they were running out of ALL resources, nuclear fuel included. Also the world of Fallout never developed the microprocessor until just before the war, and it never had a chance to become widespread. That's why in Fallout's world they focused so much into miniaturizing nuclear technology, much like our world focuses so much on miniaturizing computer technology.

Starting SPECIAL?
Assuming you add 1 to every stat by buying the medical clinic implants a jack-of-all-trades goes like this:
5 ST is more than enough. With the strength implant plus that +2 strength OWB perk you can use pretty much any weapon in the game effectively. For the really heavy weapons like minigun there's always alcohol or the weapon handling perk
5 PE is also enough, with the perception implant it lets you get better criticals, and the only other perks that needs more are useless. Besides ED-E is there is you really need enemy detection
7 EN is the bare minimum, so you can get all the SPECIAL enchancing perks off the medical clinic.
CH is kind of a dump stat so you can put as low as 1, but if you play on hardcore or don't want followers made of glass I'd recommend to leave it at 4 or 5
5-6 IN lets you pass pretty much all intelligence checks just by using mentats, and with all DLC installed it's more than enough to max out all your skills by level 50 (skill books also help)
6 AG lets you get all the agility dependant perks except that useless one from lonesome road. If you need more AP you can always get the action boy perk
7 LK is perfect for when you wanna raid the casinos cause you can easily max it out with the implant and a couple specific clothing items, and you really don't need any more in combat

I went to Lonesome Road right off the bat. I had done a similar thing with Dead Money, but that turned out to be easy since I was a sneaky melee guy for that one. Lonesome Road was much harder, and I had a great time. I was level 6 when I got there, 14 when I left.
Some highlights:
>Barter skill and just doing the first few quests in Goodsprings and with Powder Gangers gave me enough money after selling the Arc Welder to buy full Riot Gear immediately
>The beginning was tricky, I mostly survived spamming dynamite and using the bowie knife
>Over time, I got better stuff, namely Red Glare and the Industrial Hand. Those helped a lot, even though Tunnelers still really hurt
>One of the Deathclaws I shot with a Flare Gun to escape flew into the air and died from the fall
>From the elevator ride through cave of the Abbadon, I was entirely crippled. Every body part (this was on hardcore, so I couldn't fix it til the autodoc in Ulysses' temple)
>I died attempting to fight Ulysses over 20 times. Finally, I decided to talk him down through a combination of high speech, general's coat, a 20+ meeting people and some good ol' sour mash
>We fought the Marked Men together... well mostly him, I helped by blowing up the warheads
>I kept ED-E because he's cute, then and we blew up NCR and Legion to set the groundwork for my independent vegas and for the wonderful loot in those craters
>I got the rarer Courier Duster with the blackjack since I had no faction rep. I talked with Ulysses a bit, then went on my way. I might come back and kill him!
Overall, it was a blast and I had a great time. Very challenging and fun.
