I grew to despise the comics kind of fast, but man this game is a blast when playing co-op.
My only complain is that the bosses are trash if you are running around with maxed out characters. The number of goons across the levels multiplied if you were doing co-op so they were still hiarious even if you were maxed out.

Honestly, the books and the movie are extremely different, but I think they're best that way. The movie would have been so shitty if it tried to accurately recreate the books. The movie cut out like 90% of the shit they covered in the books, going from like 2 years covered to what felt like a couple days. And all of the "high concept", for lack of a better term, shit with the subspace highways and mind control and Scott actually being a huge asshole but never realizing it because he literally beats his "dark side" into submission, the whole backstory with him and Envy, the shit with him and Kim, the stuff with Knive's dad, none of that would fit in a movie or even make sense in a movie. And so instead of just cutting out content and leaving holes, they changed the form of those long drawn out chapters into something that only takes a scene to get across, but still has the same feel as the comic.
I view them as two completely different stories, and I enjoyed them both a lot. Neither is "the best", but they're just so enjoyable. The tone and writing were fantastic, even if the plot wasn't exactly great.

Felt like he was just trying to pour the same "I'm fine, I'm fine. Everything is fucked and I keep fucking it up but I'm fine" hopelessness shit that Scott Pilgrim had into another character, but it just fell flat because there were no really good supporting characters or interesting plotline that had you guessing. In Pilgrim there were plot reveals that actually felt like they mattered all the way into the last book. In seconds the only thing that was unexpected was "lol it was actually an evil witch too" and it didn't HAVE to be an evil witch because she was already breaking magic rules and fucking up reality, there didn't need to be an evil force, the main character was already fucking up but then suddenly it's not her fault and everything is fine.
That being said I don't regret the read, it was still charming, just heavily flawed.

Scott's life is fucked up because he's the strongest fighter, and in this weird world all problems can be abstracted and turned into a literal fight, including his own issues. So instead of solving anything he just beats them down, learning nothing and refusing to take responsibility because he honestly believes he's the good guy, and that winning makes him right.
Ramona has the opposite problem, in that she is running from all of her problems, fleeing from each battle and convincing herself that she never did anything wrong. Her boyfriends are all evil and she ran away from them, when the truth is she's just a bitch who gets into shitty relationships and then bails when things are tough.
Scott finally stopped fighting everything when Ramona left him, and Ramona finally started fighting for herself when he came back for her. It's all abstract and you could just as easily say "lol random who cares multiple endings" and have just as much credibility, but I think it's fitting that when Scott "wins the fighting game" he loses, because that's what he always does. And when Ramona wins the fighting game, she wins for real.

Scott's character, condensed, is that he does shitty things, but erases his memories of it, so ends up being completely adrift, with no real substance because he just has vague invented memories of his whole life. Cera seems like a good choice for someone like that. His quiet nervous demeanor SUGGESTS that he is a nice person who's just bad with girls, but his actions PROVE that he is a bad person, and also a strong one. That clashing of demeanor and actions felt like a really good way of translating a backstory, and explanation of backstory, that took 7 books into a film that runs for an hour and change.
The books were long in the tooth about explaining every single detail and hammering in the meaning of every metaphor in black and white. The movie doesn't have that kind of time, but still managed to get the same tone.
