When was the last time you truly enjoyed video games and had high expectations of the industry?
You know, when you played for hours on end worrying only about having to go to sleep, and when you looked forward to the next game in your favorite series taking a huge leap in advancement over it's predecessor.
I stopped having high hopes of the industry in 2005.

This released on Blu Ray?
Hype
The last time I had a lot of fun with a video game was in 2014.
>>344456413
Today thanks to VR.
>>344456837
it'll wear off soon.

>falling for the VR meme
Total War War hammer for sure. Was pretty thrilled with Elite Dangerous too, ridiculous dlc aside
when I was hyped for Fallout 4
please kill me
2014, when the Wii U looked kinda promising.
>>344458016
2014 E3 was when I last felt Like Nintendo was in control of things.
>>344458243
That year was pretty fucking ok for the Wii U. There were still Nintendo Directs. Bayonetta. Got that Wii U with Mario Kart, good times.
Then I sold the thing. I don't usually get rid of unsuccessful consoles, my dreamcast is still there.

>he can't afford VR

I want to fuck these skunks.
>>344458624

>he haven't even tried it

I lost hope right after Iwata died
I was hyped as fuck for Amnesia: Machine For Pigs.
>>344458728
why
>>344456413
The last games that gave me this feeling was Ratchet & Clank 1, 2 and 3.
Stopped after that. Grew up I guess.
Something like 2003 maybe?
Before Arma turned out to be a worse OFP with better graphics, before HL2 turned out to be a worse HL with better graphics, before new Thief and Deus Ex turned out to be shiny bloomy console shit.
New Vegas was the last fun game.
Was excited for XCOM 2. Kind of all drained away when Firaxis released every enemy before the game was even out.

Because the are begging for the D, my dude.
I will be butthurt for the foreseeable future about MGSV
>>344456413
Early days of WoW was the last time I felt like that.
This past e3 when they showed bannerlord
07 i think. Too many gimmicks after that, not enough vidya. In my later years I've found that I care less about presentation and hype and more about playing the fucking game. Though there's not many to choose from now with AAA being the standard and everything plays the same.

>you will never be this hype for a game again
>>344460307
Of Kings and Men looks better.
Get rekt scrub.
>really enjoying The Last Remnant
>Put 105 hours into it, just enjoying the story, gameplay and making a warlock.
>Hard drive goes to shit.
>Didn't use steam cloud
>Back to square zero
I desperately want to play the game, but it is too much work to get back to that point.
>>344461785
>not playing it multiple times
>>344461981
I know man, I really really wanted to play new game+ now that I know the game.
But fuck, I didn't even finish it the first time, sure I don't suck at it... That much anyway. But I can't get back into it.
...Also fucking with the rushgame.ini... Jesus christ, I wish I had the foresight to backup that. Fucking screen tearing and texture popping...

>hyped as fuck for Twilight Princess
>its shit
I haven't been able to get truly hyped for anything since.
>>344458924
>Always have the latest VR shit in my office
>never try it because I don't give a shit about gimmicks especially when there's no games
>>344466758
>hasn't tried it
>thinks his opinion is valid
At least give it a shot before you make up your mind anon. Its pretty neat.
>>344466937
maybe when it gets a game that actually looks good I'll try it.
>>344457169
it's consumer drones and shills
2004-5 was prob the last time.
HL2, fear, far cry, and doom 3 were all coming out and of course WoW.
Those were the days.
>>344466937
this fucking shill
Zelda Breath of the Wild is my last hope.
I want to believe that it'll be a turning point. Not just for open world games which I'm sick of because the lot of them are just shopping list-and-commute simulators inbetween meaningful gameplay moments. But after BotW comes out, over the horizon, there'll be lots of nice stuff.
It's not that I haven't found things to enjoy recently, but they feel more like blips, genre and design throwbacks rather than a renaissance in game design philosophy.
>Steam backlog running dry somehow, barely bought any shit last summer sale
>literally on the last thing in my anime backlog
>running out of books to read
>not really finding many older TV series or films of renown that I haven't already watched
I don't know what I'll do. I did a lot of amateur modding and game projects when I was younger, maybe I might go back to that. Or save up time off and take a trip somewhere far away.
>>344459896
>tfw put in over 800 hours into it
having a blast with the witcher 3 right now- before that, the last game that fully hooked me was new Vegas
>>344456413
>last time you truly enjoyed videogames
Today replaying my dreamcast collection.
>Had high expectations
My expectations were crushed when I realized this industry sold out to big business, marketing/advertising, and anyone but the long time players like myself. I think E3 2006 is when I first noticed...or rather was being indirectly notified that I and my kind (core gamers) were being abandoned for many kinds of casuals (Women, SJW's, wiggers, stoners, and nongamers) because they're easier money.
Nintendo's E3 really hit it home, when I listened to Reggie talk about "Blue ocean", and how they were the new target, I didn't exactly know it then but for some reason it made my blood run cold. I know I'm not the only one, I know some of you had the exact same reaction to it inside. It wasn't voluntary, it was a deep knowledge within your soul that you knew everything you know and love was about to be sold to MONEY. I KNOW you guys know what I'm talking about.

I want to commit a crime.
>>344456413
Just yesterday while playing SMT: Nocturne.I hate the battle music, though.
>>344456413
2006. Every year after that I was always disappointed in one purchase or another. I don't understand how people can get excited for videogames anymore.
