I wouldn't say its "not" casual hunter but the games have been getting easier with each new release. The whole "git gud" meme will definitely die out by monster hunter 5. I do appreciate that the games still try to keep it somewhat difficult with the higher end arena quests and variant monsters. But yea, Generations/X is pretty easy compared to the rest.

Frankly the game series was never inteded as a hardcore only club and it only got this image because the west got fucked out of the online aspect in the earlier games so you had to masochistically solo the co-op content. Even the earlier games are nowhere near as challenging when you play it as intended (with 3 other hunters) than it is to solo.

General rule of thumb is that Aerial sucks. Adept and Striker tend to be the two main ones, with some weapons such as the IG using Guild.
Adept is really great on the LS and DB as it lets you power up or stay powered up easily. It's also the best generally on GL and the ranged weapons. Guild is also a perfectly reasonable swap for Striker on most weapons, although while it makes the LA have stupid good kill times it is also boring as fuck.
