I mean he became popular around when seeing anything original on the internet was a big thing. You could become somewhat popular with anything at least half decent made. I bet he thought he was going to be one of the pioneers of the future of internet content creation and he was gonna be rich as fuck back then.
However, internet content creation started getting actual professionals creating high quality content and cheaply made stuff became obsolete. Also crap like let's plays started getting most of the youtube monies.

It's such a shame that if those Klaymations came out today it wouldn't be as popular as it was back then. No one appreciates amateur animations or films anymore. The current animation scene is dominated by super charismatic NICHE majors using MSpaint and and people that like Harry Partridge that release high quality animations every few months.
Stuff like this gets frowned upon nowadays despite how much work got put into it
