For anyone that has the game and wants to see roughly were it's going to be in the next couple of weeks, the current Unstable build is pretty much 1.0 right now. If anyone is interested, here's a simplification how the game turned out.
Most of the survival mechanics are back. So far from what I've played, they rolled back from using implants to the older system of making your gear for extreme conditions. It seems that you can't freeze during the night on normal planets anymore, but it still exists as a challenge for cold planets. The speed Hunger starts to affect you definitely makes farming much more of a need than ever before.
Planets no longer have just the same look all over. There's still an overall design for each one, but for example, forest planets have forests, swamps, fields, and more. Desert planets have spans of sand, crag, and occasional spats of bone. All the flora and fauna changes depending on the region and overall it adds a bit more to what you can find.
Crafting has changed a bit. There's smaller things like having to wait for an item to be crafted (but honestly it takes only about 3 seconds at the worst) and recipe outputs have been rebalanced, often to spurt out more tiles per craft. For new crafting stations, you just upgrade the older ones so you no longer have useless old surplus. Definitely better balanced overall in terms of what stations make what, and the new UI layout for inventory and crafting makes it easier to manage what you're making and with what.
Combat and movement is better. The Winter Update back in 2014 added more for blocking and different attacks depending on the type. Now weapons have ton of different animations and effect depending on the design, and many of the ones you start to find as you go on have varying effects and special abilities. More techs have also been included that change how you can move through the environment and there's new items like capture pods that work like pokeballs.

Not a single intimidating enemy in the entire game. They all look like silly, harmless things.
Take a look at Terraria. Face monsters alone put anything in SB to shame in terms of looking and sounding threatening.
Those biomes that you're talking about are devoid of anything that makes them unique. They have no unique enemies/bosses. They might as well not be in the game if they're not going to flesh them out.
Every biome in Terraia has its own share of UNIQUE hazards, UNIQUE enemies as well as its unique look.
Starbound doesn't even have biome specific music.

NPCs have more to them. You can set up a colony to make money off people you get to live there. Villages often have tiny quests that are just simple tasks, which give rewards accordingly. You can also have some of the random NPCs you find become part of your crew, so they follow you around wherever you go and fight for you.
The Outpost area has changed. The Ark has been merged with it and is way in the back. There's a basement that's added in, vendors have changed their look and stock to be more detailed and support new features respectively, and it's now where you get your Techs.
There's now more simple quests. Like above, NPCs in villages can offer you them. Some people in the Outpost won't open their stores until after you help them get an item or what not. Most of the non-Outpost ones will only give you a few credits or a bag with a random item in it, but overall these are mostly just so you have something to do.
The main quest was heavily expanded on. There's a dedicated storyline, it revamps how you get to the outpost, and adds a ton more quests that take you all across the universe and to new mission areas where you fight new bosses. However, the most important aspect is that you can pretty much skip all of it and get to the nitty gritty of exploration or fighting or colonization or whatever's your poison.
There's a ton of other little things as well. Vehicles were added, monsters come in more interesting and numerous more varieties, new biomes, performance is well off and stable with no real problems except memory usage but that might be because it's the Unstable build, and much much more. Overall, I say anyone who's actually bought the game should give it a try. It's still much more geared towards exploration so anyone who doesn't enjoy that might find it lacking despite a lot of improvements, but I think a lot of people might find it to be what they were hoping for when it first was whored out into Early Access three years ago.

Eh, I would say there's some things that make biomes each unique. Beyond just aesthetics and what structures they have, there's definitely other things you can expect to see in some biomes. Swamp biomes usually have the swamp dogs, frog NPCs, and you can expect to find gear specific to lagoon chests and the like. I always like desert planets because you can find boneyards or whatever the official term is and they have this absolutely horrifying monster type that just hunts you down slowly with a blank face until it closes the gap and suddenly rushes you. It's still disappointing that there's nothing akin to raising a giant clockwork menace from a ruined Glitch vilalge like Terraria has its biome specific bosses for areas like the Corruption and Crimson, but I think that the Race-focuses missions and what miniboss monsters that you can find to make up for it overall.

Overall, even those blank faced horrors were still mostly in-line with the rest of the critter design and even their earliest attempt into the more grotesque creatures was just the poorly done, fleshy looking miners in the Erchius Facility. However, the above mentioned creature that was in the bone yard was still threatening in execution, and for those looking more towards the idea of creatures being grotesque and horrifying, they've been building towards introducing more eldritch creatures in the line up and you can find biomes that are influence by the Ruin to be bloody, filled with tentacles, and have creatures to match.

The game feels super fucking boring. As much as I wanna like it, since I fell for the early access meme, I just can't. At most I can play half hour before getting bored. There's fuck all to do in a planet. I'm not autist enough to create a pretty base, commie blocks are good enough, so I mostly like exploring. And there's nothing to see underground. You might find a cool structure here and there, but It's always the same 2 or 3 structures you find all the time, with nothing on them. On terraria you'd find gold chests with cool loot here and there, minecart rails or enemies that dropped fixed cool loot, starbound has nothing. So many years in development, with so many players giving their opinion and somehow they still manage to put this unfun piece of shit out

Not really, most things people build in terraria look like shit but that's because they only use default wood and stone which are literally the two worst looking blocks in the game.
All starbound needs to do is have interesting enemy designs that do unique things and that would basically fix the whole game.

I took the dullest grey bricks and built them an island prison at the edge of the map, each a 3x10 room with nothing but a chair, workbench, lightbulb and once segment of an iron fence serving as a window.
