Pretty much this.
Everything about the game is shit. Controls, combat, animations, graphics, voice acting, but it somehow comes together to make a really fun game because of it's unique and interesting mechanics.
People who tell you it's the greatest game ever though and talk about it as if it's some sort of masterpiece are just autists, though.
This game is living proof that Gameplay + the ability to make up your own story > Anything Else

A not finished game. Get warband, it's pretty much the rest of mount and blade as it should be.

Mount and blade is the original, it's in a not finished state, there are things you cannot do or finish the game.
Warband, you can become king and take over the whole map and there's a whole other faction. It's basically release, where as the original is like a beta
With fire and sword is a fan made, paid for expansion, that adds guns but takes out multiple things that made warband fun.
Napolian what ever, is just an on line musket fest.
Viking Conquest is another fan made expansion/in its down world about, duh, vikings. It's different and I have it, but have not played it so I have no comment. judging from reviews and other people's comments, it may be a thing that you will like or dislike with no middle ground.
There's also some pirate fan made, again, expansion/own world thing. I thought it was on steam, idk and am to lazy to look up what that is.

Yeah but bannerlord will be built for larger battles and also maybe DX12/vulkan to help with the CPU strain.
If I enabled 500 person battles in current Warband, it would be a 10fps shitshow.

A very addicting and very unique game. It's pretty much a dream game done on cheap budget. Spent about 2 weeks so far playing long Warband sessions. It's the first game in a long while that's grabbed my attention like that.
