As for myself I want a new metal slug, but keep it 2D. I'm fine with KoF and the other mentioned games shifting to 3D (although they haven't said anything about being 3D) since they'll be able to put the experience they got from KoF XIV to good use, but Metal Slug must absolutely stay in 2D.

This pic shows perfectly all that is lost in the 3D transition. 2D sprites have strong silhouettes and seem very clear in front of the busy backgrounds. I know 2D was not an option due to costs, but there is no excuse for shoddy artistic direction. They need a different shader, and/or careful hand painted textures, and/or some frame by frame tweaking of the models to regain the solidity of character VS BG. Is not just aesthetics.
