Once you hit level 12 there are a lot of 300+CP Pokemon, and once you evolve them their level jumps even higher.
Tip: Catch a lot of Eevees and evolve only 250CP or higher, rest are candy fodder. You'll get at least a 500CP flareon, and I've usually gotten higher at 700CP. This is around level 10. Friend of mine is level 13, catching 350+CP Eevees and getting 900+CP evolves.

The only counter-argument I can see is some guy who lives on a poke-stop so hyper potions are nothing to him. But that isn't the case for most people.
Sitting there and spamming and taking the maximum amount of damage possible will make you lose all your healing items and not be able to continue assaulting the gym.

Not really. This only applies if your team is utterly outclassed by the gym's pokemon. And that's assuming you're attacking it solo. A single person can easily take out an entire gym without having to worry about potions just by spamming if his pokemon matches or exceeds their CP level and don't have type weakness.
Maybe it's just because of the servers not working properly, but right now dodging isn't at all effective to avoid being damaged and you do more damage by spamming than anything else. You won't run out of healing items by sitting there and spamming unless you are unlucky enough to not have easy access to pokestops.

I've also done theater so I have stage training that helps me make the most out of uncomfortable or boring situations and people like that.
If you've never attended a theater or acting class of any sort, I strongly recommend it by the way. Gyms don't have more than 6 pokemon where they cap out. If you have shit tier pokemon the obviously you're going to get wreked by a gym with higher cp than yours whether you dodge or not. Tpye advantage doesn't change the mechanics of the battle system, as it's been explained to you several times now.

You don't get to counter attack after avoiding damage when you dodge, it's just delaying the inevitable because spam is the most effective way to win battles. You can blame the servers if you want, but the literal fact is that you shoudn't waste your time dodging since spamming is just more effective under the current battle system.
Stop trying to sell the battle system as having more depth at higher levels when it blatantly doesn't.

The battle system has alot more depth then most shit-posting uninformed dumbasses here on /v/ think it does.
If the CP of your poke matches up to the gym's defender (late game your levels will be similar unless you are a pleb) and you are on the wrong side of the type game you WILL get wrecked. Go out right now and find a gym with a shitty 200 CP Pidgey and try to fight it with a 200 CP bellsprout that knows a grass move. See how far you get. At absolute best MAYBE you kill it with 1 hp to spare but I highly doubt it. More then likely you don't even kill it.
Similar results occur when you take your 1500 CP Charizard and try to fight a 1500 CP Blastoise.
If you utilize dodging you can and will be able to overcome these negative disadvantages(I can and DID in the beta). You can escape with a tonne more health.
The depth in gym battling is as follows
Building a balance team is rewarding and necessary
Type advantage is a big deal so swapping out alot is a must
Dodging in order to conserve HP and be able to continually attack before using all your potions is a must.
Ignore it all you want but the battle system is actually pretty decent when it's work (which it isn't right now).
Come shitpost about it in 3 weeks to see I'm right.

I've collected 54 of the 151 currently available pokemon (146 if you remove legendaries, which are events and not catch-able in the wild). In addition I can think of at least another 30 or so pokemon that I could still get through evolutions I haven't done yet but that I do have the mons for. That's not even counting the pokemon I can get but haven't encountered yet or their evolutions or the fact that I'm not max level yet so I haven't got access to all the pokemon in my area.
I doubt I will have to leave my state to get every pokemon (except legendaries because I don't know how they work).
