Whole combat system in the first game is scrapped, 2 is a more Gears Of War feeling. Not necessarily bad, but the powers get a little less powerful in exchange for fast cooldowns. Your class doesn't really matter, all are viable. Go with what seems fun to you.
ME1:
Kill enemies outside the mako and you get way more XP. Only the killing blow matters.
If you're playing on PC you can edit the .ini files to improve textures, including the famous Garrus face bug.
The only ammo types that are worth using are tungsten/shredder. Save them.
Pistols do a fuckload of damage and are super accurate. Other weapons are nice, but invest in your pistol.
ME2:
All DLC can be gotten for free easily on PC. It's worth it. Except genesis, fuck genesis.
Do side missions before recruitments, otherwise you might get underlevelled. This is mandatory on Insanity.
Talk to your crew about upgrades.
Get headshots.
ME3:
Multiplayer is based and still active, on PC at least. Use cheat engine to get credits if you want, you won't get banned.
Again, get all DLC. It's a little harder because Origin a shit but it can still be done. You can even use save editor to give yourself the pre-order/special weapons.

Don't go to Tuchanka. Not yet. No, still not yet. You think you've done everything else? No, fuck you. Do something else. Don't go to Tuchanka yet.

It's a master of none in the first game and a walking tank later on, it's bland. Infiltrator and Vanguard are good because they mix shooting with really fun abilities. Vanguards get in close and rape face. Infiltrator keep their distance and disable from a range.
