Sure, queuing takes forever. Leavers are still everywhere. But this things will get sorted out in time.
But out of the games I have played, about half have been the best games of TF2 I have played in a long time - the reason I left in the first place was because I was running into more and more trouble finding servers where I could find quality matches.
Everyone playing the objective, sticking with the same players all the way through and knowing who they are - having that feeling of cooperation from beginning to end. PEOPLE ACTUALLY PLAYING CTF INSTEAD OF BASE TURTLE DEATHMATCH, WHAT THE HELL. The feeling that people won't just decide to conga midgame. Yeah, its one of the things I enjoy about TF2, but sometimes I just want to play the game.
And some of the other problems brought up... I don't think they are that huge... The apparent death of community servers is probably a side effect of everyone wanting to try out matchmaking, its logical that they are empty. I will be surprised if they still are two weeks from now. This is a huge improvement over the experience Valve servers ever provided.I think it would be good to have a quickplay button for community servers, though I still don't think bringing back Valves servers is necessary.
I think this is also good, Competitive mode gives Valve a game where balance matters a lot more and allow people to set up good matches without third party sites.
So who is upset about this? Of course, the friendly heavies, the redditors, the spycrabs and the furries. They are worried that people will actually give a shit an play the goddam game instead of paying attention and indulging in their antics.

Every game I've played has been terrible, it takes minutes for me to get a round (used to be able to jump in before the intro music was done), you can't even accurately select a map or fucking gamemode.

I could get into this update if Valve ironed out the problems fast enough. When I join a CASUAL game, I'd like to actually be able to play it to my comfort. That means not waiting 20 minutes, being able to choose a map that I want to go to, and so on. I'd be glad for this update if they can just fix these major issues. With Valve, it's always a 50/50 chance that they'll redeem themselves, or do somethign even stupider. All we can do is see what they do.
But just for safety, I'm cashing out any high priced stuff I have, incase this ends up driving away the userbase.

This update pretty much crushed any hope I had left in Valve. It's never been more obvious that they don't play their game and have completely no idea what they are doing when it comes to game mechanics.

The pub browser was much more convenient, you didn't have to wait a minute or so for the servers the load into the list. Also, too many servers are full of custom game modes. You need to find a server that you like, play with the same people over and over, and stick with it until it dies then rinse and repeat. It's a hassle.

Iktf anon. Comp is really great, matchmaking is just shit. Like some other anons mentioned 9v9 would be a welcome addition and some class changes too. At the moment it seems Spy is absolutely useless. Most games i've played so far have been without a sniper too (though a good sniper is always an amazing addition). Could see 1 Scout 2 Soldier 1 Demo 1 Medic 1 Pyro be one of the more common team compositions for CP and koth. 9v9 would be great to actually get all the classes to be used.

There aren't really any other good arena shooters out there right now. Overwatch is just an easier TF2 with a literal press button to win mechanic, bullet magnetism, and large hitboxes to compensate for gamepads.

I can agree what you said about the teamwork aspect. Teams have diverse amounts of classes instead of 6 snipers and spies, when someone says "we need someone to go x", teammates oblige. There's was more teamwork in games, I had a gibus pyro spychecking my buildings for an entire match, not even stopping for a high five taunt. What they need to do though is remove the penalties for casual matches and add the old quickplay back ALONG with the casual mode.

I don't know why they nerfed the Quick Fix. It was the main medigun I used and it had serious drawbacks already in comparison to the other ones. Why nerd it even more? It's called the Quick Fix. Why does it build Uber slower than the Kritzkrieg when it's supposed to be the quickest?

valve has been trying to take back "control" of their own games for years now, valve doesn't want community servers to exist in any way especially if they can harm the sales of crates
valve designed cs:go in such a way to decentivize playing anything but official servers'
Valve has to ban clientside weapon models and skins, and servers that spoof skins on cs:go.
Everything this update has added pushes tf2 in exact same direction as csgo's online infastructure
Valve doesn't want community servers to exist anymore but they can't just cut them off at once without facing severe backlash, they want to push tf2 in the same direction of CS:GO to try to make non valve servers dead, and the remove the capability at a later point when no one will make a fuss, your all being played

This lends more evidence to my theory that every TF2 update in the past few years has been done by a completely different group of people who knew nothing about the game, had wildly differing uninformed views on what it should be, and didn't know why previous design choices were made. I've played there, and while it has good players and it's fun with voice chat off and sprays disabled, the fact that scrambling is up to voting and it requires a 55% of voters to agree to the scramble is fucking retarded. That server is often stacked like fuck and it's impossible to have fun either way, because either you are on the rolling team and the enemy team stops going out of spawn, or you are in the rolled team and you get tired of not being able to do shit after a few minutes.
You want a good community server if you are playing alone, join one which doesn't let you choose the team yourself but throws you into whatever team has the least players automatically. The best server I've seen for that is critsandvich, and it has really good players too.

I had so much fun when you you could survive the Soldier kamikaze taunt with the Rocket Jumper and use all the stickies in the Sticky Jumper for a super fast jump. The original Beggar's Bazooka was also hilariously broken and fighting the original Cow Mangler as mini-sentry Engineer is one of the best memories I have of this game.
I also had much fun exploring the map trying to find unexpected places to put buildings in and sentry jumping all over the place.
