I occasionally have issues too. It's not a guarantee but heading to the moving grass usually increases your chances of finding something.

Pretty much yeah. That's why i called it a game of hot/cold cause it really is. Another thing, the pokemon in nearby are in order of proximity to you so if they are all 3 prints but the one you want just went further down the list probably go the other way.
Also like I said grass seems to have higher pokemon activity so walking towards it is a better chance of guessing right usually.

Two means it's within walking distance and should only take a couple minutes to find it.
Three means it's somewhere on the visible map and may not actually be accessible.
All relatively speaking.
The grass doesn't always mean there's a Pokémon there, but if one is nearby it's usually represented on the map by it.

Look for some grass to pop up the same relative distance away the footsteps tell you, and walk toward it.
You can select a Pokémon in the nearby menu to replace the three nearest with that specific one's distance so you can monitor it while having the map up. If you're approaching the right spot if grass, it's footsteps should decrease. Otherwise, keep looking, and you may as well catch what was in the grass you were approaching anyway.

The server crashes constantly, like every 20 minutes making it insufferable to play when you're out and about since you're kicked back to the login screen which takes multiple attempts just to sign in. Even if you can get past the log in screen several parts of the game are just staright up busted.
Half the time when fighting a gym battle the server hangs leaving the gym's pokemon above 1hp no matter how much you attack it while it wipes out your entire team.
Right now it's only really playable if you live in a podunk suburb where nobody is contesting gyms or you happen to live or work on top of pokespots you can easily farm every 10 minutes.
Imagine if this game was actually good and not an obvious quick barebones cash-in. Nintendo fucked up they could have something that prints money for years, this will be dead in a month

Can someone tell me how gyms work? There is a blue gym across from my work so I walked there and beat the current gym leader. Instead of my Pokemon showing up as the new gym Pokemon, his stayed even though I decimated him. I beat him twice and all I got was prestige and XP. I then went to a gym down the road from me that is red. I beat all the Pokemon and it said I won or whatever, but the gym stayed red. I then proceeded to refight him, but then the game decided to do that dank 1 hp bug so I went home. Logic would say that if I beat a gym, I should take the gym over, but that clearly doesn't seem to be the case.

The more prestige you have the more your gym needs to be defeated. I recently took one with 4000 prestige by beating them twice.

AFAIK when training at your gym you can only use one pokemon. I'm only basing this on the fact I claimed a gym and trained it. I died to see if I could rotate out a pokemon but i just failed and got no exp/prestige.

Evolution gives a huge boost to CP. I have no proof whatsoever to back this up, but I feel getting the base evo of any pokemon and upgrading/evolving it from there gives you much higher CP. I have a Beedrill that I found at 120 CP and it's about 3/4 through the bar.
