I have never played monster before because I only played maybe 3 matches. I played monster and racked up a good 8 kills because the dome would go down and one of the hunters would run away while I massacred his team.
It's a fun game, nothing I would have spent more than $60 on. Actually playable with no remorse now that it's free.

You should spread the skills around though. All of them are useful and the scaling with leveling isn't that great. The skills have cooldowns so if you only have 2 not 4 you'll have a lot of downtime. With all 4 you can cycle them and always be using something.

I focus on the assault then move to support. Those are the ones that can actually fuck your shit up. If I down them fast enough the medic or tracker has to revive them. Given how poorly it did prior to going f2p, where the lack of retention what lack of gameplay modes and variety —and those issues still have not been addressed— the safe prediction is that the game is still effectively dead.
It will see an initial interest boost, and will once again quickly fall off because the game is too shallow to sustain itself. Maybe it will be lucky and retain a low digit 4 number instead of a low 3 digit number; that will not make it a healthy game.

I went into Gamestop not to long ago to place an order in for the new DOOM (great game). I was riding with my friends mom, and while she was rounding up some games to get for her tiny baby children, I was lurked over to a shelf in the corner and found a copy of Evolve for 20 dollars. I don't recall it having a 'pre-owned' sticker on it, so that should tell you something.
Anyway, a few weeks later we went again and as I was leaving, I thought I'd browse the shelves. Just see if anything was on sale or what not.
And low and fucking behold, that same copy of Evolve was there.
But now it had a big 'SALE' sticker on it, and was five bucks.
I didn't buy it.

I know nothing about Kala and haven't come across one who's used their special portal ability in a way that made me convinced of her utility. She does a LOT of damage though.
I didn't find out until after I'd bought Sunny that they'd nerfed her insane Jetpack buff though, unfortunate given how fun that was when she was first introduced. Sunny still ends up being a really good support though. In an environment where your teammates can actually manage their boost you can use your jetpack buff to get someone out of a sticky situation pretty quickly. Her shield bot, while lacking the sort of pre-emptive buffing that Hank has with his shield, is still very effective at keeping targeted hunters alive and has pretty insane range on top of it. It requires communication with teammates and telling them what areas are and aren't going to end up being covered as you can only deploy one at a time. Having a distinct bot to handle the shield buffing though frees you up to damage the monster to your heart's content and her grenade launcher does a very respectable amount of damage. She's fun though for sure, definitely my favorite support.

It has a 5 second duration and even gives you a notification when it's used. During those 5 seconds sprint the fuck away from where you're at and then you're free to continue sneaking and eating.
I pre-ordered the gameon consoleand put over 300 hours into it. I loved it, but I totally understand why others didn't. I even bought the first batch of DLC characters, but stopped playing about 6 months ago, just because other games came out.
I still love the game, but I'm really happy they went with the F2P model to revive the game, and now I can get the other characters for free.
I'm kind of sad that I can't hide as well as the monster anymore, but I think the game being alive again is worth the trade off, and I get that it was not fun for casual players. Maybe they'll put in a classic game mode.

I played it back then and the only monster that could stand up a fight was Wraith and it was a long winded one with the team always on you.

I tried a leap and breath on my 2nd go then that go I tried leap and rock. Leap really helps disorient them, breath does good spread damage at close range, and the rock throw really helps with the needed long range. I might try 2 leap and 1 in rock and breath next time.

This is true, you can only have a max party of 4 to earn online XP and challenges. Any party greater than 4 limits your XP gain to a certain amount, after you hit that amount you stop getting XP. Having a party larger than 4 also turns off challenge progression.

Despite everything else, I think Evolve deserves a mention for having what is probably the best flamethrower in any game. When you are already inside of the dome you can't put it outside, but if you have it outside before it goes down, you can use it to get outside from the inside.
Its amazing when you're getting hounded by the monster and escape with like a slither of health to just fly back inside with full health. Bonus points if you do a sick escape from the monster with your allies in tow.
But that's just for dome shenanigans, the best use of the portals is to get to the other side of the map to cut off the monster. Especially if you're like me and tend to be 200 paces ahead of your allies with the tracking, just keep cycling those portals like breadcrumbs and they can get to your position instantly when you catch up with the monster
