So this guy. Ever wonder what his deal is?
I've seen people call him everything from a vampire (possibly a Malkavian, since every visible Malk including the player has the same mismatched eyes), a kuei-jin, a demon, a mage. Some people familiar with the lore even think he's a Yama King.
The truth is, he's sort of a mix of the above. It's impossibly unlikely he is a Yama King - those motherfuckers are titanic figures of spiritual woe. But it's clear he's from the Thousand Hells, the way the Malk PC reacts to him. Malk PC also immediately understands how Kuei-Jin is born (mainly just to fuck with Ming) even though they didn't know what one was until a night ago. But this is different, Malk doesn't give a shit about Ming, Ox terrifies them.
He's either an Akuma, or a Scorpion Eater. Scorpion Eaters a kind of 'heretical' Kuei-Jin who have submitted to the Yama Kings. Akuma are similar, but they don't have to be Kuei-Jin (and have lost their souls) - they can be Eastern mages or shapeshifters like the landshark.
It's more likely he's an Akuma Kuei-Jin than the other options; this explains his desire to farm bad luck - Akuma serve the Kings by creating disharmony among the Cathayans. If he is a mage though, that means that every setting is represented in some way except for Changeling - which is a good thing.

New Orleans was a city sourcebook, just like Los Angeles was. Outside of that, New Orleans has justification for loup-garou werewolves, alligator Gangrel, and the voodoo Samedi bloodline.
Apparently New Orleans is also the "signature setting" for Requiem as well.

Be careful, Bloodlines is a gateway drug.
You'll get into the lore, consume pretty much all of it, and then realize that you'll be very unlikely to find anyway to play the tabletop with you so it's just lore binging.
There are Lasombra that are essentially Spanish shadow vampire pirates, by the way.

People do, but they're much rarer than your typical D&D guys - which is unfortunate, since that's your most likely place to find anyone interested. A good portion of them also moved onto Vampire: the Requiem, which is much more simplified - I won't start a shitfit among people who prefer one to the other, but it's more accessible at least.
I actually managed to set up a group, but I always have to be storyteller since I read all the books and know most of the lore (plus no one can make shit up either before or on the spot like I can in my group).

Anyways, my last build was a Tremere thaumaturgy gunslinger. In the end he was basically unstoppable (except that one time I tried to roast the sheriff and the flames of the thrower came back down on me).
Also, does any of you have a good idea for a "Count Orlock" build? I am specifically orienting on the 70s Kinski film because I found the army of rats and the pestilence he brings pretty cool - Animalism will thus be the main thing, but how else can I develop him? Obviously no weapons, so I should probably go for Potence as secondary. And I am undecided whether I make him a hacker or not. I mean, Count Orlock doesn't know what a computer is, but on the other hand, this one was just embraced and thus might already be well versed in computer matters.

Werewolf has an insane cosmology in comparison to the other settings, Changeling is pretty much detached from all the other settings in terms of their lore.

Here is my headcannon. LaCroix is at least a 7th gen vampire, and is actually a proficient user of Dominate - this is how he's able to keep the Sheriff under control (who has to be 7th gen in order to turn into batzilla), and how he's survived.
But it's made him a complacent bitch without any real persuasive skills - something the Ventrue recognize, and frown on those who rely on their discipline instead of diplomatic acumen.

The build up begins as soon as you enter the lot. The music, lighting, the ramping up of supernatural events. The newspapers don't make things scarier, they explain what happened. That makes things less scarier because things become more understandable.
The best scares in the level are the light bulb bursting at the entrance, the axe man appearing behind you at the dead end door, and the girl rushing past you in the basement hallway. All of these things work precisely because they are early on and the more elaborate supernatural displays have not yet occurred.

Not only is siring highly regulated by the Camarilla, it would be beneath elders and powerful vampires to produce a Mormon-level brood to keep in mind; the older vampires remember how the even older vampires were terrible parents, so after a few most don't feel like expanding their responsibilities.
It goes against the nature of a predatory creature to create rivals. Embrace is supposed to secure you powerful servants and allies.
Sabbat are by their nature even more Darwinist and proud of their power while being scornful of humanity, so spreading the thing they think is what separates them from the common herd isn't really their thing.

It depends on how the zone is classified.
Elysium: Territory of an ungodly powerful vampire, most of your abilities are deactivated because your character doesn't want to die.
Masquerade: Zones with normal innocents, law-enforcement, etc... Anything clearly surnatural breaks masquerade, as a nosferatu your face breaks the masquerade, feeding where people can see you break the masquerade, as do most vampire powers -or at least a significant part of them- revealing you are a vampire during dialogue is also bad.
Combat: Door is locked, cops are getting donuts, no innocents in sight, go to town, no holds barred. Just remember to have fun and drain some fucker to get your blood back.

The Unofficial Patch, which is pretty much a mod at this point. Clan Wars is also pretty good -though my Gangrel quest bugged out- and The Final Nights is pretty sweet for a third playthrough -second is Malkav or Nosfe.

Bloodlines is one of my all time favorite games, I've been playing with the clan quest mod, since I'd never tried it, I think it's an overall improvement, I like how it makes feeding more of a constant need, it sort of taught me how to feed more openly without getting caught, easy enough when you can send entire city blocks into a deep trance, so they can't spot your neck biting shenanigans.

I like it overall, but the quests are really shit, though I kinda like the one where you meet the Kuei Jin and had a night on the town with them. The actual clan quest, at least for the Tremere, is pretty bad just to start, though. I haven't finished it, but it actually starts off horribly. Strauss asks me to go try and learn Malkavian secrets from Jeanette. He flat-out tells you that Diablerie may be necessary, which is pretty fucking out of character. Not many vampires outside of the Sabbat are down with Diablerie, from my understanding, so I doubt someone like Strauss would be suggesting that as a course of action. The pack also has the companion mod, so I can keep dear Heather alive without telling her to fuck off.
Also, later on in the main quest, I got Beckett to teach me Protean, not sure if that's from the patch or something else in the mod pack. I never use it, since I'm not a melee character, but I took it for roleplay reasons. I mean, how many chances does a kindred get to pick up new abilities that are usually dearly guarded by clans?

The bar are for potions.
And all three Ventrue disciplines can be used in combat, its just one is a stat debuff for enemies, one is a defense buff, and you have to have level 3 in Dominate for it to be a killing discipline (and then only on humans).
You can go either way in terms of combat, they're the most flexible in that regard. They have bonuses to being talkers, so Dominate might not even be worth it since you're already persuading people (since Dominate isn't available for later persuasion checks).
Either go full on corporate samurai knight Ventrue, or indestructible guns blazing killing machine.

Malks are slightly more flexible than other clans.
With Auspex you can boost your damage with Guns through Perception, so that's probably what you'll go with. My first run though, I went spent my points on Dementation and Obfuscate and used melee and it was fine.

I've heard Bloodlust Shadowhunter is sort of similar, though I've been getting mixed signals from people's reviews of it.
It's a game that apparently was completely developed by one person. You play as a vampire/halfbreed and there's three classes, which seem to be the modern equivelant of the mage/rogue/warrior. You build your clan and do dungeon crawling, and that's pretty much where my knowledge of the game ends. I've heard Redemption is decent, but it's not very similar to Bloodlines, outside it being set in the same universe, from what I've seen.
It's not super similar, but I'd recommend checking out Dark Messiah too. It's not as open as VtMB, but it's a gem of a game with some great combat and character customization. A word of warning, though. Specialization is pretty encouraged in Dark Messiah. Jack of All Trades characters don't seem very viable.
