OK /v/ here's the thing.

I was a pc gamer for a long time before I switched to ps3 then ps4 because of lack of money from having to upgrade the fucking pc everytime.

Last I ever had a pc was when I played tf2 and really miss that game. U also played tf classic. The stopped pc right around the time when they gave the sniper a bow and arrow update. I remember counter strike 1.6 too.

Lonf story short, after like 8 years, I got pc again. I still love my ps4 to death and will play games on it, I just want to get into the PC scene to play games like civilization, tf2 which I miss

Some questions

1. How much would it cost to build a pc that runs smooth on modern games? Like ultra high settings or some shit.

2. How often should I update the graphics card and stuff now days?

3. Amd or Intel (Intel was the shit back in my day)

4. What did I miss from tf2 ever since it came out? All I remember is that map with the hot air balloon, and the sniper getting the bow and arrow update

5. Do people still play cs 1.6 zombies? Does GO have zombies?

6. Any other advice would help. Looking to build something.
>>
Sorry for typos. And I meant after 8 years I want to get into pc again*not that I got pc.

This build is overkill for 100% maxed 1080p. It's probably around or under $800USD not including peripherals.

Thanks man, and like, how long would that machine last me before upgrading anything in this modern day of gaming? 3 years?

Also anyone who can answer other questions appreciated

>3 years
Please. It'll be quite some time before I need to upgrade. You're in trouble when you can't manage 60fps with the settings pegged and this build manages 120fps avg in DOOM with everything turned on.

Any "upgrades" made before 8 years or so would be unnecessary and would be purely from being bored with same hardware.
>>
>>344279514

1. Ultra high? You need 1k for that. Though you can get along fine on a mix of ultra/high at 800 bucks

2. Depends. You should be fine for a while. It takes 4+ years before you'll likely have to deal with 30-40 fps on high. If you keep dropping down settings, you can still hit 50-60 even on low. If you're ok with 30 fps you're card can last quite a while. I mean you get sub 10 and sub 20 fps on the consoles and seeing as you come from them, I think you can handle that.

3. Intel cpus are still better. Amd has zen cpus upcoming which may or may not be worth it.

4. I dropped it a while back. It was still fun buy I played it for years and had to move on.

5. CS 1.6 will never die bar society collapses. Go has zombies too.

6. People will spaz out between AMD vs Nvidia video cards. Particularly nvidia fanboys.

Though as it stands there are new cards releasing. On Nvidia's side the only thing you should get is either a 1070 or a 1060. So far amd has the rx 480 out which will fight the 1060. No benchmarks on the 1060 so we don't know how that will go. 480 is 240 bucks, 1060 will be 300 for a while until price drops to 250 and the 1070 is currently 400+ bucks because scalpers and because nvidia did some stupid founders edition shit.

The rx 490 is no where to be seen for now but there are rumors that it will have HBM2 memory as vram. Which imo is worth waiting for. But that's a while off. Maybe late this year or Q1 2017. If you want something more powerful than a 480/1060 then the 1070 is the one to get for now.

Except a better-than-consoles PC is cheaper now.

This plays W3 and GTA V around Ultra at 30 FPS and 50 FPS respectively, and WIndows 7 can be infinitely re-set to be free by deleting a file.

>I switched to ps3 then ps4 because of lack of money from having to upgrade the fucking pc everytime.
you're either a b8, or a moron.
Unless you're an ADHD "MUST HAVE NEWEST SHIT, ALWAYS!!!" moron, a well built PC should last AT LEAST half a decade.

>1. How much would it cost to build a pc that runs smooth on modern games?
Depends on your intended resolution and framerate. 1080p/60hz is piss easy with ~500 bucks these days, but 1440p/144hz is a lot more demanding. But even then, 1000 bucks is like the top I'd pay. People have been doing these crazy "PS4 killer" builds for less than 400 bucks already.

>2. How often should I update the graphics card and stuff now days?
I've been running this PC (i5 2500 + 8GB + GTX 560ti 1GB + W7 Ultimate) since 2011, and have no problems running ANYTHING smoothly at 1920x1200. Every time I've considered upgrading, I've been surprised how well even new titles run. I may consider dat GTX 1060 though.

tl;dr: 5 years minimum.

>3. Amd or Intel (Intel was the shit back in my day)
Intel. Say what you say about AMD's GPUs, but their CPUs suck ass. Period.

>4. What did I miss from tf2 ever since it came out?
It became free to play hat simulator.

>5. Do people still play cs 1.6 zombies? Does GO have zombies?
Yes. Dunno about GO, but I doubt it. It's a skin-collectathon.

>6. Any other advice would help. Looking to build something.
i5 + matching mobo of its model + 8GB RAM minimum + mid tier Nvidia.

Also, I'd probably still be running my 2007-built Core2duo + 8800GT machine, had the summer heat waves not melted something in it few years back. I still know people playing with that era's components. Consoles have greatly held back the evolution of graphics and system requirements.

1200 for a pc that would run most things on ultra (minus stuff like Tomb Raider, Witcher 3, GTA 5, Hitman)

$2000 for the top end that will last you 3 or 4 years before you need to upgrade the gpu and cpu if you want to play those years AAA games on ultra.

700-800 if you just want to play any game you want.

I don't think you understand what system RAM is for.

VRAM though, there's 6gb on the 980ti. More than enough for any game on the market right now to operate at 1080p.

1stly, 980ti is not a 980
2ndly, x60 is not stronger than a x80. Learn to real Nvidia (and Radeon, whil you're at it) model codes. x60 would have less than half the compute cores of a x80
3rdly 6gb is actually the same thing as 6gb, believe it or not.

Less power is fine, I guess. Especially if you didn't get a decent PSU. And $250 is a great price, especially for a new nvidia release, even if it is just a budget card.

>Why pay $100 for for such an old card???
because it's cheap and super low power, as in does not use those 6-pin power connectors at all.

Yet it is strong enough to get ~35 average in GTAV on "Very High" presets, when coupled with mere i3 and 4GB RAM.

At the moment though, the GTX 950 would be the smarter choice, being the sort-of spiritual successor to 750ti, some models similarly not using external power connectors, and providing a good 30% increase in performance.

Mate, they have already been tested and the 480 gets completely destroyed by the 1070. They arent even supposed to be on the same level. Its the Crossfire 480 that is claimed to be on the level of a 1080. A single 480 is a new midclass budget card.
