King's Quest began in like 1983 so if you aredie hard for old games start at 1.
King's Quest 1 and 2 got updated remakes and I recommend them over the originals.
The stories are pretty connected across games but not every game.
1- You set out to be king
2- King meets queen
3- Next generation of characters. You can start here. The King and Queen are in this game but you don't need to know their backstory.
4- Picks up right where 3 left off, but the story is kind of separate
5- Story is very strongly tied to 3
6- Story is a sequel to 5 following up on some plot threads. Considered the best.
7- Story is a sequel to 4.
Don't play 8. It's shit. Haven't played the new episodic ones ,but they are a reboot and not canon.
1-4 are old style, and I mean very old, type your commands out like "Open Door" "Look in Drawer" "Take off clothes" "Eat pie"
The remakes of 1 and 2 and games 5-7 are the classic eye/hand/mouth/item cursor point and click to interact gameplay.
6 is the best but if you want to start and get into the fictional world and story of the royal family start with the remake of the first games.

Because I've been playing CS since before 1.5 and GO is the best version of CS. Because I've been playing TES since Daggerfall and Skyrim is the one I spent the most time on.

Fair enough, though I still think Skyrim is the worst of all of them. GO's community keeps me from enjoying it, though the weapons are more balanced, but the RNG factor slightly angers me.
