It's the way Nintendo has always worked. They come up with a gameplay idea and then dress it with an existing franchise. Except this time we got to see the process before it was finished (before the Starfox label was put on it).

I mostly meant with that it could be bundled with a bigger games being cheaper alone. But you mentioning all of that is extremely disappointing, sure using an existing IP sells but having a completely new one would be nice, I'm glad they at least made Splatoon a new IP instead of going with the Mario idea..
