I really like miss Necromancers in video games. Not as a different type og playable but as the main selling point.
Anybody know of any games like that?

I would like it if there was more crafting of your skeleton og maybe you killed towns people to get more and you have to stay hidden untill you can take on the king of the land

What would your ideal Necro game be?

I wish there was one where you would start of bulding your base and army by slowly killing people from small towns at they would be rasing their alarm level so you would need to bulid better warriors or rouges.

The bones you get would have different stats and could be combines with others to make better ones.

Ideas i have myself.
3D Semi open world.
You start of low level. 3 lives and you are gone.
medieval setting. You start by killing farmers because of nobody being around. Stop them before they reach a town where there a guards.

You kill animal to and their bones can be combined with human bones so you can have fitghers with differen abilites.
Some are for grave robbing others are for stealth.

It would be a party-based RPG, the kind where you run around collecting and bonding with all the optional companions in the vein of Dragon Age. The catch would be that you are a necromancer, and all your party members were past heroes that you hunt down, tomb raid and reanimate.
The plot would be that some prophesied ancient evil has arisen, but the prophesied hero is nowhere to be found. Out of desperation, a necromancer decides to try reanimating every Chosen One he can find and hope that a whole party of them might stand a chance at saving the world.

You'd also have the option to reanimate enemies you've killed and NPCs who die during the story, and not everyone you reanimate will be appreciative and friendly. Some of them will turn hostile, so you can't just run around reanimating everyone and expect them to love you for it.
You could also just reanimate them as mindless corpses too, but that will have significant consequences and might jeopardize your chances of beating the ancient evil if you abuse it too much.

If you're into rogulikes I'd recommend Tales of Maj'Eyal. You can even become a Lich.

If I made a necromancer for Wow it would have Blood, Flesh, and Bone specs. Blood would be a healing spec with spells like rain of blood, transfusion, and leeches. It would have a pet that was a floating ball of blood that would be attached to your slit arm by little blood tendrils. As it attacks enemies it grows in size and can explode as a raid healing cool down.

Flesh would be a tank spec about summoning an abomination that can mutate growing arms and shit. You would ride on its shoulder. Typical abilities would be pulling with the hook chain, flatulation, vomiting up slimes. If the abomination ever died you would drop to the ground and assuming you somehow don't get smeared instantly you could summon another one and get back to tanking.

Bone would be a DPS spec all about having a skeleton army. Aside from summoning skeletons you could cast bone cages would have bone Lance and possibly a cool down that would combine all of your skeletons into one big bone golem for a bit that did massive damage.

As you progress you would gather corpses and start experimenting on elixirs and simple spells.
Eventually you become a necromancer with a skeleton army and crudely stitched flesh horrors.

Warlords Battlecry 2 has a good necromancer class. It also makes you feel good summoning giant skeleton overlords.

The last really good necromancer game where I truly felt I commanded a part of a dead world was Everquest 1. Every spell felt related.
What most necromancer games fail at today is the temporary summoning spells. That only irritates me.

Eh, not a class per se but it has plenty of gems that deal with necromancy. Best classes for that is the Witch and the Templar because they can easily get the right magic skills early.

Because nothing else really happens. Once you get to lvl 30 you've kind of seen every skill, and the only progression you'll see will be in the form of stat bonuses to skellies and golems.
This is something PoE does really nice with the gem system. You can make your skellingtons and zombies have flaming attacks and if I remember correctly even active skills, although I might be wrong.

Also, I strongly recommend one of the Necromancer mods for Skyim. I remember playing one a long time ago that required you to harvest bones and such in order to make minions.

As well as skeletons and zombies you can summon floating, flaming skulls (Summon Raging Spirit) which is an apt active skill for a necro-build as the skulls will die after a few seconds so you have to keep casting it to keep up your army of like 30 skulls.

Funny you mention that passive, since many "guides" I've read don't recommend it at all because lategame you need your minions to survive for as long as possible.

Personally I think the skill is great. By the time a zombie or skellington are down so low to trigger the skill they're problably gonna die anyway. Make sure they do so with a bang.

I've wanted a good necromancer game for the longest damn time. I also had an idea of a blood cultist type of dude that worshipped an eldritch god and his source of magic was blood; carving runes into your self and invoking them by smearing your blood over them and speaking the invocation in the ancient language.

It's literally made of default UE assets.
Right now I have my third person character, input treatment, animations baked to walk, run and jump, I'm building up the classes for summons and base. I'll try to make a basic hideout management UI and some proof of concept summoning ritual (can't just summon skeletons "like that")

Depends on your fantasy of what a necromancer is. If you're the type of guy who envisions necromancers are raising and commanding endless hordes of undead then RTS is the way to go. If you see necromancers as mages with a focus on death-based magic, including undead but also more conventional magic, then tactical RPG is the way to go.
I'm personally more partial to the RPG approach.

Maybe Staff/Armor upgrades that give buff to certain type of skeletons?

If you really want to go heavy on numbers, a top down view is probably the most reccommended by numbers.
Or you can go lower to like 40-60 skeletons and go for the Overlord/Pikmin route, camera behind the MC.

As someone who has played summoners in PoE in literally every league so far (and since before there was any leagues at all) I'd say that MI isn't worth it at all. Maybe for leveling, but i never touch it nowadays. Zombies deal huge amounts of damage per hit anyway, and resummoning them takes time away from your other skills, as summoning raging spirits, multicursing, offerings, etc.
Just run zombies with minion damage (it's a "more" multiplier nowadays rather than an "increased as it used to, so it's slightly better than melee phys damage), melee splash and either fortify or melee phys damage (can be switched quickly when the survivability from fortify isn't needed) in a +2 minion helm. Your zombies will gang up on shit and instantly demolish full packs instantly when they all hit with their high damage AoE attacks. MI is just annoying as it kills your minions early, as soon as they reach 33% hp. Your zombies can go down way lower and still recover with a bone offering up.

Summoners in PoE are very effective nowadays with the Necromancer ascendancy class. My clearspeed with a summoner using only self-found gear is at least 70% of my clear speed using "top tier" builds with expensive items, especially now that you can give yourself Flesh Offering in the Necro tree. Bone offering also gives you quite a nice defensive buff, enough to actually be able to use the necro aegis keystone, which earlier used to make me feel way to vulnerable. The unique shield Victarios Charity can therefore make your summons give eachother (and you) frenzy/power charges, making them even more effective, especially as charges have a much larger effect on monsters/minions than on players.

yeah i was eventually regretting taking MI, but i was playing summoner around the time that spectre was all the rage, and then getting specific spectres felt like a pain

plus my zombies would die in bossfights anyway, there was no way to heal them back then. I think i used melee phys, added fire, splash and multistrike on them in a 5L

then came along some bugged way of putting raise spec inside a trap + mine support gem combo and abusing the multipler to summon some mob from pietys rooms that had righteous fire aura

they patched that up pretty quickly

rolled a dual flame totem after that and had a lot of keks even if was shit on later, but during my time i was under the radar cause of bumblast users

I think a tycoon type of game would be perfect. You have your base of operations which you can upgrade. Like the Black Tower or something where you build new floors as you want to expand available space or just have specialized floors (library, reliquary, treasure room). Kinda like DK or Evil Genius base building but vertical.
At the beginning, you can control only your character and all commands to your minions are issued through spells and stances (guard, roam, hunt). Later on you can acquire special servants who you can also control directly.
Apart from building your base and conducting research you can raid various locations which are progressively more difficult (villages, towns, castles, churches).
I think it would also be quite good if you could have different walkthroughs in term of having different kinds of power (ghoulish, vampiric, lichdom, soulshaping or whatnot) which also affect your characters skills and the decorum of your base.

Why not? You can put interesting gameplay ideas in here. Like raising your own guards to repel invaders (those pesky paladins and adventurers), or solving the problems of decomposing body supplies by building underground cooling chambers. Lots of trivial, everyday stuff for a necromancer. You are creator and inventor walking the path which no one dares to thread. You can flex your muscles sure but I'd like to see the game where you have not only solid gameplay elements but some feeling of progression. It does require a lot of sacrifices but for you the end goal is more important.

If we're going by the necromancer stereotype, they would never have time to learn.

See, Dins can just just chill in a church for a while to get power, sorcerers are talented elementalists that can't fathom the more complicated magics, and druids just chill in the trees.

But Wizards have to learn their shit, and necromancers are wizards of a sort. Magic to them is more of a science. As in science, you build upon the discoveries of old to make new advancements in your field of study.

Whereas other wizards have libraries to research and build a base of knowledge concerning their field of magic, necromancy is considered evil. There isn't much access to literature/education on the subject.

Therefore, the necromancer would have to experiment and brute force his way through every Necromantic advancement, essentially reinventing the wheel as he learns every axiom/law/spell. That's why those fuckers have to put their shit in phylacteries, otherwise they wouldn't have the time to learn enough to matter.
