More games need to do this. Ironman mode should be obligatory on all games during the first walkthrough.
Your saves should also be kept server side only, so that you wouldn't be able to back them up.

No recent software is allowed to have this feature. It's illegal (in the US) to profit this way.
You are not allowed to delete or install without permission at the owners expense (ie on their HDD), wall-of-text "click to accept" or not.
Amazon got sued to hell recently for trying to do it to Kindle owners.
The loophole is using a "service" (ie Steam, Battle.net, etc) where you don't actually own the "data"/character. You simply connect to access the server which holds the data.
Ironically software DRM (and DMCA) are not federally approved forms of copyright and are not enforceable by the government. However, if Congress approved the reason, the companies can still take you to court and sue you "legally" assuming you can even afford the court fees,
Microsoft already has a class action lawsuit lined up against them for Windows 10 bullshit in the event they don't change how forced updates/installation behaves.

Not actually deleted, just unrecoverable without third-party means.
Even games like (PC) Diablo 3 keep backups of hardcore characters for safety (and legal) reasons.
