You do, but you tap the screen to do normal attacks. The blue bar will charge, when its charged you hold down a tap and release to do your second move.
Each move has a type so pokemon type does matter. So do STABS, etc.

Not much reason to have multiples of pokemon.
You "power up" your pokemon by spending that pokemon's candy (i.e. pidgey candy on pidgeys) and some dust thing on the pokemon.
Gym battles don't do anything for the power of your pokemon. If you battle a friendly gym, you are "Training" and this is how you increase the level of the gym. A lvl 2 gym can have 2 people defending, lvl 3 gym can have 3 people defending, etc. I think max of 10 per gym.
Fighting a non-friendly gym slowly de-levels it until all the pokemon are defeated, then you can claim the gym for your own team.
Y'know, being overnight security with a golf cart is a good way to get pokemon and shit, especially if you work at like a mall or something

when you catch a pokemon (including duplicates) it comes with leveling items
so catch a bunch of the same pokemon, transfer the weak ones (i.e, delete), and then you have a stack of candies and stardust or whatever. that's what you use to level and evolve them

Yes. You'll more than one of the same pokemon to "transfer" the inferior ones (the ones with low CP) and use it to get candies which are used by the same pokemon in order to power them up and evolve them.

The only difference between this game and Ingress beyond the minigame you have to play for collecting resources is that it's a decidedly non global game.
There's no point to controlling gyms beyond the immediate time before and after you press the button in your shop panel to collect the premium currency.
Gyms are also pretty impossible to defend. A group of a few friends can tear down a multi level gym in a couple minutes assuming they have the correct types and are in the same ballpark of CP.
It's designed to be purely about getting together with a couple friends. Taking a gym. Then going home to jerk each other off. There's no global objective or rhyme to the game.

Same here! It was the wildest experience. I was walking around my neighborhood tonight in the middle of a large-ish city and everywhere I looked there were teens to 30-somethings playing Pokemon.
People were meeting each other, getting drinks, grinding with the lure modules.
It was kinda cool. I imagine it will only last for the first few nights after release. But still really neat to see people all having fun and working together.
