Anything that isn't a white background + logo or Amano art is shit. But the NA one is especially bad because there's literally nothing of note to see on it besides three guys awkwardly posing and one guy jumping off a bike. The lines drawn don't guide your eyes anywhere interesting, partly because there is nothing interesting going on at all.
The Japanese one at least conveys a sense of uncertainty/friendship/brotherhood and implies a lengthy journey lies ahead. It's not bad really but artwork is always preferable to CG shit. Simplicity is an art and the Japanese cover masterfully applies it and the NA one - as is typical - doesn't.

Shitposting aside I really do feel this is going to be a good entry to the series and I'll probably sink a shitload of hours into it. The story also sounds intriguing and a nice call back to the earlier days of the franchise, focusing on monarchy politics and magical crystals. Its refocus on towns, minigames, and side content is only a good thing after the boring, if pretty, atmosphere in xiii.
What technical problems with the party AI already look like they're in the process of being fixed, and the handful of framerate issues are acceptable, provided they're not constant or overly common.
That's my two cents at least.

World of Final Fantasy looks like it could be legitimate good old fashioned JRPG fun. I can't believe how blah the mainline console FF's have been for the past generation as a result of FFXIII being some kind of trilogy. Going by shit I've read that seems kind of trustworthy. Main story's gonna be pretty linear. Prince Noctis, his advisor, his bodyguard, and his best friend are hitting the road to go to Noctis's wedding, which is supposed to seal a peace treaty between his kingdom of Lucis and a much larger technocracy called Niflheim.
Evidently some shit goes down on the way to the wedding, and Regis, king of Lucis, Luna, Noctis's fiancee, and Noctis himself, are reported killed by Niflheim's armies. Niflheim ends up invading Lucis and Noctis has to carefully go through the occupation to confirm whether his dad and fiancee are actually dead.
Other than that, I have no idea what'll happen next.
Feels like the group'll end up finding and recruiting the summons as part of the war with Niflheim, and a possible revenge story if Niflheim wasn't bullshitting about Regis and Luna getting killed. Lucis is the last magical kingdom, since it has the last remaining Crystal, so the summons would likely be considered a huge advantage in the war. This'll be something of a callback to FFX, which also involved seeking out the summons to stop an overwhelming threat.

Nah, the water motif makes sense in the context of the game, considering water is a huge theme, with Spira's technology and entertainment almost entirely dependent on it.

The generic font for the options. The strange black and yellow logo that you never got to see before or since. The redundant and inexplicably darkened boxart logo right above it. I find that's the right way to do it. Similar to the earlier GTA games, where you were restricted access to other parts of the map until you've done enough in the one you were in. I'm willing to bet that by the time you're three quarters done with the game, you can go anywhere on the map quickly. Especially since we have a flying car confirmed at least.
