What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

What the fuck do you mean "actions per minute"? It's a video game. On a board for video games. Are we supposed to just shit on it because some other people did? I don't know where we fucking went so wrong as to make absolute fucking cowards like you -who parrot every shitpost they see- welcome on this board. You echo every criticism you notice on this website without any knowledge of its source content so you can feel like you fit in the /v/ "le epic pessimist mindset" because you're certainly not going to get the satisfaction of community and friendship out of real life, you worthless fucking nobody.

I hate you. I hate everything you represent in this day and age on this board in which shitposting hiveminds have replaced actual debate. I hate that you are incapable of forming your own opinion. I hate that genuinely good games now have a bad reputation on this site because of fucking morons like you.

>Is competitive pokemon autistic
Well on the one hand, Pokemon is so chock full of bullshit designed specifically to keep it from being competitive that it will never be an actual competitive game, and most competitive Pokemon players know this and don't care because competitive Pokemon is better than the endgame "content" of the actual games.

On the other hand, there are people who actually take it seriously and think they are legitimately skilled players for abusing talonflame and aegislash.
>>
>>344211717
>"competitive" gaming is just autistic

It's no more autistic than regular gaming. Competition is how you get better at games, and the desire to improve is natural in any hobby.
If you play golf you're not autistic for wanting to improve your score every game.

If the goal of the game is to win, trying to accomplish that goal is perfectly normal.

It seems to me like OP is just bad at games and it wounds his ego to see people better than him, but instead of trying to get better at games he tries to dismiss better players as being autistic.

>Being an expert athlete gets you fit and gives you skills that can actually benefit you in real life

Or it gets you concussions, joint injuries, ligament injuries, and a whole host of other bullshit that comes with pushing your body really hard.
Take a look at retired sports players 20 years after the end of their careers and see if they're still fit and healthy.

Being faster is always better. There is never a single situation where being able to execute more actions than your opponent isn't advantageous.

You're making a shitty "slow and steady wins the race" argument and it's retarded.

Being fast doesn't make you stupid, unskilled or bad at strategizing.
If you're just as smart and strategically minded as your opponent, but are able to execute commands twice as fast, you're going to win.

And getting faster does not come at the cost of any of your other skills, so it's not like you miss out on anything by improving your speed.

I like the idea of being the best at something. But I wouldn't be keen on it being a single videogame, or even a genre of videogames.

Also there's the fact that videogames aren't enjoyable when you're playing against the top percentile. Those guys literally play their one game for 16 hours a day. At some point you just want to go outside, or watch a movie, but you can't, you have to practice otherwise you'll fall off the top spot.

Sounds like hell actually. I'm happy working a normal job and chillin' with vidya in the afternoons.

As much as these people would say no, the fact is taht "E-sports" are a sport. But the thing is, just like real, normal traditional sports, it's a sport simply because MONEY says it's a sport.

Real sports are a major platform for shilling products and all of that shit, E-sports essentially ARE the product, as the game is what's being shilled out, and then advertisers get in on the fun but the majority of it is the game devs marketing their shit. That's all that there is to it.

No, clueless and ignorant old people and people without any knowledge of history don't take esports seriously.
Anyone who actually paid attention in history class and can tell you where the Olympics came from will at least entertain the idea that esports have potential to be something serious. Their real problem is that the only people actually trying to develop serious esports are also complete assclowns (read: Riot Game)

If we got somebody competent to make an esport, and then kept them from making content patches or sweeping balance changes on too frequent of a basis, then we might get somewhere.

Has anyone made the argument that tons of extra needless actions was a good strategy or productive?
You're arguing against an argument that nobody is making.
Being able to accomplish what you want to accomplish faster than your opponent is important.

>Play an instrument

I play 3 instruments.

>knowing when to express speed and not needlessly wasting energy.

Well that's a shitty example because being fast when it comes to instruments is about learning how to not work against yourself. Speed comes with being relaxed and having proper technique.
A really fast drummer is only able to be really fast because his technique is good and he's not working against himself.

>refer to combat

You mean that thing that every trains for by doing cardio to build endurance and agility?
You want speed in combat as well.

Being able to do things quickly is good in everything we've mentioned.
Every single one of those things benefits from training in speed.

If you don't end up with career threatening injuries, or in a vegetative state because of too many hits to the noggin or whatever else you put at risk for being an expert athlete.

Being an expert at DOTA means you can make six figures with a fraction of the effort and none of the serious injuries.

At least traditional athletes are physically fit, so there's that. I'm not much of a pro sports person myself though. Esports certainly isn't marketable though. I guess it just gets a bad wrap cause the stereotype of basement dwelling video gamers still exists, and esports certainly highlights it
>>
>>344244985
>>344245136
I guess that's why there's no such thing as a metagame and why people don't get mad at their teammates in pvp games since you can't be good or bad at them.
>>

kek
>>
>>344245456
You're absolutely right anon. Esports is in no way comparable to those ridiculous fads. Other things it's also not comparable to are animation (lmao that Walt Disney fag is going to die alone and forgotten by even his own family), computers (as if anyone would ever let machines think for them), and touch screens (nothing more than a stupid gimmick to appeal to casuals).

If it makes money enough so that people can support themselves doing so, completely lawfully, guess what? It is productive and legitimate.

What he does is also legal and "legitimate"
>>
>>344246749
Every bit as legitimate as your average professional lacrosse team.
I'd say football to make sure you know what I'm talking about, but Dota 2 actually exists in countries other than clapistan so it's quite a bit more legitimate that handegg is.

>Being an expert athlete gets you fit and gives you skills that can actually benefit you in real life
Yeah. You can sue for injuries that your obscene wealth and top-tier insurance can cover without question and buy your way out of prison for beating your wife.
>>
>>344247418
Well, you hate every reason to hate sports, but stop comparing to clicking "competitive" "games"
>>
>>344247308
Look at this way: 15 people masturbating in a room and the one who masturbate faster is the winner

The masturbate winner is an athlete and masturbation is a sport according to your definitions
>>
>>344247708
It's a sport according to all definitions actually. It's a stupid sport and nobody should ever take it seriously because it is unbelievably dumb, but that never stopped anyone from caring about football sooo
>>
>>344248042
>It's a stupid sport and nobody should ever take it seriously because it is unbelievably dumb

Just like Dota 2, StarCraft, CS GO, etc,etc

They are all stupid and nobody should ever take it seriously.

no
>>
>>344248203
Yes, all currently existing games are shitty as esports, but that doesn't mean the concept of esports itself is stupid. At least not any more stupid than the concept of sports in general.
The irony of people saying that physical sports are valid while esports are not is that video games and sports are the same fucking thing. They're both combat simulations turned into competitive games. The only difference is the era they were invented in.

>>344248462
Chess is widely accepted as a sport, and yet it doesn't require any physical exertion at all. Old people in wheelchairs can play it. If chess is a sport, then competitive masturbating is doubly so. Especially since competitive masturbating would actually involved physical exertion lmao.
>>
>>344248804
>Chess is widely accepted as a sport

By whom?
>>
>>344211948
Don't pretend being good at sports and being good at vidya are the same thing anon. Autism attracts them to vidya, it doesn't drive competiveness.
>>
>>344249020
I don't know, the fucking Olympics maybe?
>>
>>344212328
No they don't. I can't fathom how insecure you must be to honestly believe that all competitive football players have autism.

Stop defending your autism "sport".
>>
>>344249459
But the word "sport" is attached to a physical activity
It's a "mental sport" if you care so much to put sport in the name
>>
Competitive football isn't autistic, but it IS inflicting brain damage. All those micro-concussion blows they're constantly taking to the head turn them retarded which is sort of like autism.
>>
>>344249674
>It's a "mental sport" if you care so much to put sport in the name
How about "electronic sport" instead?
Or esport for short?
>>
>>344234542
>Also there's the fact that videogames aren't enjoyable when you're playing against the top percentile.
What? The people playing at the top percentile are not only better, they're having fun on a level you can't even comprehend.
>>
>>344249929
>How about "electronic sport" instead?
Like I said before, putting a "sport" in the name is for people trying to make the game sound a big deal
Like sounds much better saying "esports" than "Competitive MMOs"
>>
>All this people defending e-sports
I'll never get this. People that usually shit on watching sports are fine with watching e-sports
>>
>>344250761
>making MMOs into an esport
Ok now that's just being stupid. Genres that actually have potential as esports are things like RTS or fighting games or racing games. Competitive games that don't rely on content and balance patches to remain enjoyable and alive.
MOBAS/ASSFAGGOTS, MMOs and the like should not be esports. Just like Hearthstone shouldn't be an esport because it's RNG card game bullshit, and just like Pokemon shouldn't be an esport because it's RNG bullshit atop RNG bullshit atop anti-competitive game design.
>>
>>344211717

i agree comp gaming is retarded

but that's because they're fucking butthurt retards who play the same fucking maps over and over again, whine and piss about their rankings, and demand every class / weapon / whatever be made "balanced" instead of LEARNING TO ACTUALLY FUCKING GIT GUD

look at a fun MP game and then look at dota

the first thing you will notice is that THERE IS ONE MAP

the second thing you will notice is that EVERYBODY IS A BUTTHURT FAGGOT

i too am a BUTTHURT FAGGOT. it is a disease
>>
>>344251356
Dota 2 is a MMO just like StarCraft
>>
>>344251148
My argument is that esports may be stupid, but regular sports are exactly as stupid as esports are. I don't think either of them should be taken seriously, but if we're going to take one seriously then we are obligated by the "don't be fucking stupid" clause to take the other seriously.

The "don't be fucking stupid" clause is as follows
>Don't be fucking stupid, but if you really have to and feel the need to make up arbitrary bullshit to support your fucking stupid ideas, then at least be consistent with that arbitrary bullshit
>>
>>344251356
>Pokemon shouldn't be an esport

Wait, if you are going to consider an eletronic game a "sport" you have to consider every game that has the potential to be competitive to be an esport
>>
>>344251713
Technically yes, because MMO is a shitty genre name. Sort of like MOBA is.

>>344251786
It has the potential sure, but it'll still be shitty. Just because it is a sport doesn't mean it's a good sport. In this case "shouldn't be" means "oh god why would subject yourself to such a shitty experience. you shouldn't do this unless you are a masochist"

>Swimmers shaving their legs just to get slightly less drag in the water

It's pretty tryhard no matter where you go.

That's why naming everything that is not a sport is bad

Definition:
noun
noun: sport; plural noun: sports

1.
an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.
"team sports such as baseball and soccer"
synonyms: (competitive) game(s), physical recreation, physical activity, physical exercise, athletics; pastime
"we did a lot of sports"
>>
>>344251713

Starcraft and Dota are both NOT MMO's.

WoW is a MMO.

Starcraft is a RTS

Dota is a MOBA, which is like "babies first RTS"
>>
>>344252112
>an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.
We've already established that physical exertion is not necessary and is just incidental in most early sports. That means the REAL definition is
>an activity involving skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.

This wholly encompasses competitive video games.

Sure you can meme at me with
>implying video games take skill
all you want, but until you can prove to me that there is no such thing as a casual and that every human being on the planet is equally capable at all video games regardless of previous experience or training, and that video games do not require effort or knowledge, then you're just fucking wrong.
>>
If people already play Chess and Checkers I can't see why the idea of people playing Street Fighter and Counter-Strike is any lamer.
>>
>>344252662
>We've already established that physical exertion is not necessary

How come is not?

"Original sense preserved in phrases such as in sport "in jest" (mid-15c.). Meaning "game involving physical exercise" first recorded 1520s. Sense of "stylish man" is from 1861, American English, probably because they lived by gambling and betting on races. Meaning "good fellow" is attested from 1881 (as in be a sport, 1913). Sport as a familiar form of address to a man is from 1935, Australian English. The sport of kings was originally (1660s) war-making. Other, lost senses of Middle English disport were "consolation, solace; a source of comfort."

Tennis is also the number 1 cause of youth shoulder surgery because the serve causes so much stress on the shoulder. My old man played professional tennis and he is all kinds of fucked up in his shoulder, back, and legs now that he is older. You ask any decent club level player up to ex professional and they will tell you that tennis takes a massive toll on the body, but then again this is a troll thread so I don't even know why I bothered to type this out.
