too late OP, i disassembled this thing last week and gave it a good scrubbing. same with my PS2 controllers. i also swapped the analog sticks on this one because the main one was a bit worn out, as you can see.
i bought it in 2011

Give 'er a good cleaning and look into replacing the sticks. D-pad as well. I recommend you get one of those transforming D-pads, it's much better than the stock one found on the old white 360 controllers.

I don't think you understand. That is a real SNES controller, I play SNES with it. I got a first party a while back but the dpad broke on it and I'm too cheap to buy a new one.
