You play Xenoblade Chronicles for the story and for the characters.
Yoy play Xenoblade X for the gameplay and the exploration.
X is not hard story driven. Yes, there's a main plot and you unlock things advancing throught the plot but the 99% of the game is about exploring Mira, discovering new places, new monsters/fauna, etc. You are a pathfinder in a new planet...go out there and explore.
I'm not saying the story is not good but it's on another level. Chronicles was SOO good.
