I'm a solo player, I don't like having to depend on other people, because 90% of people are fucking idiots and you'll have to carry them, or they'll tumble and bring you down with them.
As such this looked like the perfect game for me, a game where if you're smart enough and put in the effort you can be on a level playing field against a team of people, and have the opportunity to punish those people if they exhibit the very behavior that I hate the most in all of gaming.
And at the start it was that very thing. I learned to play monster, and I learned to play it well, and I'd dominate. I played Wraith, and for a long time she was my bae. I wasn't one of those faggy flee-til-3 shitters, I fought and won the bulk of my games at stage 2. I didn't take decoy at all, I was one of the early "Sky Wraiths", and it was good.
Then they decided to pander to the legion of whining shitters and broke the game beyond repair.
You see, these devs are fucking incompetent as shit. They base pretty much every change they make on telemetry data, which is indicative of jack shit.
"hmmm, everyones crying about Laz being shit, but our telemetry data says he has a 51% win rate, he must be fine!" That's because 51% of monsters are too stupid to work out how his revivification mechanics works and how to counter it.
"hank is getting picked way more than the other 2 supports, is he OP? Nah, the other two are probably shit" Meanwhile Hank had a 90% pick rate in all the prize tournaments they were having back then.
They've been buffing the hunters and changing huge aspects of the game in their favor, for no reason other than people being shit at one of the core mechanics of the game, tracking the fucking monster.
The main game mode is called "hunt". Your characters are called "hunters", and yet the devs have decided to pander to the mouth breathing invalids that don't even like that part of the game.

The balancing was doomed from the start, either you pander to the 4 and hunters have an advantage, or you actually try to balance the game and drive off the majority of those 4 who play hunter. It's lose/lose. People actually fucking believe that monster had an advantage, ever, that's the world we live in. The entire game is essentially L4D on steroids where the goal as the monster isn't to win, it's to make the hunters have a tough time. If you win as the monster, it means the hunters fucked up, period, so with that in mind, they've just embraced it and buffed the shit out of hunters continuously. Bads will still die to the monster, but they might have a better time doing it, so they might stick around longer, is the logic.

problem is that with 1v4 you either make them balanced in a situation where both monster and 4 players play well together. However in pubs this means that hunters have 4 dicerolls on whether there is someone retarded in their team, while monster is either retarded or not. Of course a semi-retard monster could make up for having 1 retard on your team but still the matchmaking was in the monster his favor.
Alternative is making hunters so good that 3 players could carry the game if one of their buddies was a bumbling retard. However as soon as there are 4 competent players ingame the hunter is just boned.
I think they should make hunter have permadeath and make the monster be weaker to compensate. Then the retard can be taken out of the picture quickly leaving the good players behind who can then fight 3v1 against a weaker monster.

So was L4D1 and somewhat L4D2 doesn't change the fact the core game of Evolve is boring as shit.
Stage 1-2 90% of the time is just try to find the monster and stomp its shit well its too weak to do anything. Stage 3 the monster comes to fuck you up and its a semi engaging fight.
Its like hide and seek if after 20 minutes the person hiding came out with a full suit of body armor and shotgun. Its somewhat fun for those last 5 minutes but the 20 minutes before hand are boring as fuck.
The biggest issue is this is the core game especially when put to a extreme with the Wraith. Almost every game you play against a competent monster with competent hunters will be like this. Almost nothing will feel different.

The problem is its almost always the same at its core. It feels like a side mode in other shooters glossed up. Evolve lacks a variety of game modes. It really doesn't feel like it could've succeed no matter what it did with the 1 game mode it had at first.

Id also like to add anon that i played the game at the start where a few weeks in 90% of my matches were against the post nerf Wraith. It was the most anti fun shit in the world. Sometimes when it hit stage 2 my team and i would just go find the life regen monster or damage boost monster kill it , camp its body until its gone and then go sit at the core until it finally came at level 3.
A competent Wraith can run away well trapped well taking minimal damage. It was the most boring shit to fight in the world. Mobility without execution is the worst balance in the world. If something is fast is should always have a super high skill ceiling to be decent with.

Except that's wrong. The game sold great, it simply failed to keep its player base. The failure was not one of marketing or DLC structure (though that likely did impact initial sales to a certain degree), it was one of balancing.
