Why is this a good idea? Most MMOs and other online games have EU servers, but even in EU you can get shafted.

Lag. It's never enjoyable to play with a guy who have 300 to 400 of ping and that's even more true if the game rely fast reaction.

I agree. But most MMOs now have servers for different regions of the world. Either automatic - IP based segregation, or just 'pick-your-region' kind of deal.
I so far only know two that use 'FUCK EU' policy.
