Aigis and aki have debuffs and buffs and their stats distributed well making them better in every way. He has nothing to offer that others don't' have and do better.

his mag is mediocre at worst, way better than someone like junpei or koro

I dunno why you are using them as a comparison, Yukari is his only real competition as a party slot, and the only thing she does better than him is higher mag damage, but her element is wind which is pretty shit. Ken heals better, attacks decently in both stats, and has hama coverage on top of all that.
Also akihiko isn't even good due to ai controlled party members because there's no way to get him to use the right debuff you want. If it's P3P then he's one of the best, though.
