How long is this? I just beat the second boss, the crazy chick with the laser beam face. Really liking it, but I hope it isn't over in an hour if it's just bosses.

Easily the best boss in the game, one of the better bosses in most recent memory

I beat it in just under 4 hours. The bosses are really varied and unique, a lot more so than I initially gave it credit for

Does furier mode have any actual differences? New boss? New move sets? Or just more health/damage
>>
>>344107629
I'm on the Angel Boss right now, so far my favorite is The Hand. Not sure how many more bosses there's gonna be but The Hand is gonna be hard to beat.

Can't pick a favorite track, they're all so good. I'm partial to the Carpenter Brut tracks though.

>>344112475
It turns into real bullet hell on Furier mode. Watching a stream right now, some fights look significantly harder.

Anyone playing in Japanese? It's a French game but and I never prefer having anything other than English in my games, but putting it in Japanese seemed so fitting and I'm enjoying it.

This is probably the best boss, mind. It's the last truly difficult fight that uses both the melee fighting and shmup elements.

Last fights tend to focus on either melee or shooting, though they're still really good.

>>
>>344113367
The Burst is that sniper bitch, right? Fuck her, I just beat her tonight, and it was so goddamn rewarding. I could not beat that last phase, then I had a run where I did perfect diagonal dashes through the side waves and front waves at the same time. That's my advice for you. Try to dash through both waves at the same time.

>Tfw even in the best ending a bunch of people that didn't deserve to die were killed pointlessly

Why doesn't parrying stop their combo?
Why can't you stagger them at all?
Why are the in-between sections so terrible?

That said I want to like it, bosses are p cool

Jesus this game is too lewd
>>
>>344118870
>>344119339
She was just a kid and a kid lost his father....
>>
>>344119562
In the earlier bosses you can usually retaliate within the first couple of hits, although it's not optimal. Later fights force you to parry constantly though and punish you if you try to retaliate too soon.
>>
>>344119562
>Why doesn't parrying stop their combo?
It does if you perfect parry but for the most part, it wants you to block a combo or full attack and then counter-attack. Think Punch Out. If you think an attack is over, THEN attack.

>Why can't you stagger them at all?
Again, you can. Usually if you land a charged melee attack or get a perfect parry. Remember you can teleport while dashing. If you're in melee mode and the enemy starts doing those red wide-reaching attacks, that's a really good time to start charging, teleport behind them, and whip it out.
>Why are the in-between sections so terrible?
They're atmospheric and provide background information the game doesn't really have time to provide during boss fights. I understand why people wouldn't like them, but I think they're neat. If you're really impatient, you can tap the X-button to send the stranger on auto-walk and you can get some water or something
>>
The Burst was hands down the best boss fight for me. After I beat the bullet hell portion of her final phase, I had literally 1 block of health left. Imagine my face when she fucking turned invisible in close combat. My parry ability ascended at that point.

Also, I wish there was a secret ending with the Beat like there was with the Song. I really did not want to kill her and doing so put me in a sour mood.
>>
>>344120227
>teleport while dashing

teleport while *charging, I mean. Sorry.
>>
>>344117047

The Rabbit head didn't defeat a boss. He was that room's jailer (boss). After all, the Purple Rabbit man was the prison's chief architect. He could only go home if you escaped and that's why he helped you— to see his child again.
>>
Is there anything to find in between bosses or should I just auto walk every time?
>>
>>344120898
I think in one or two instances if you daudle or walk around a certain direction you'll get an extra bit of dialogue from rabbitman, but most of the time it's nothing important.
>>
>>344121035
Thanks
>>
>>344119073

Yeah, that's the one. The final phase is what gets me.

I'll give it another go with diagonal dashes, thanks anon.

>Mediocre as fuck game

I disagree with you but you are entitled to your opinion

also synthwave has been around for awhile now
>>
>>344118443
Take a look at Hyper Light Drifter. It's not as much of a boss rush, but I still found it to be pretty challenging and fun.
>>
>>344122091
Danger and Carpenter Brut are hardly synthwave, they're just associated to it thanks to also being originated by French House.

On top of that though, synthwave still hasn't broken into the mainstream, it's just some underbelly genre that only gets slowly more recognised every time something like Drive, Hotline Miami or Blood Dragon comes along. Hell more people would know the term vaporwave over synthwave.

its not cuhrayzee as in a heavy combo game like dmc3/4 and bayonetta.

Synthwave and similar soundtracks are very, very good if you're the sort that chases adrenaline rushes, and FURI is the perfect game for that sort of feel.
>>
>>344137851
On my first fight with The Beat I left her be for a little while when she said STOP but she just kept swinging at me for no damage so I finished her off
>>
>>344107629
Favorite boss so far has to be the knight.
Fighting man to man was incredibly cool. And the melee bullet hell was a pretty neat idea. Shame you don't see his son after you kill him though.
Haven't gotten past the angel lady yet.
>>
>>344112171
Actually more like afro samurai the game. The bosses and other characters were designed by the guy who made it.
>>
>>344140056
Eh, probably. Honestly I've always been pretty bad at games/sections that are heavy on block/parry mechanics. Which is weird because my reaction time in any other context is generally pretty good.
>>
>>344140672
The only reason I got killed by Edge once in the first place is because of fire waves in his last form. They kill you so quickly that I died before I could figure out the dodge pattern, and immediately bulldozed him the next time.
>>
>>344140385
Keep at it anon, the boss after the angel lady is possibly the best one.
>>
Man it was a fucking blast start to The Edge. The Beat was shit and I didn't want a game that's almost pure gameplay to pull that shit. The Star was okay, but after The Edge with all the swordplay, I didn't like going back to bullets.. The Edge was the most enjoyable thing I've played in a while though.

I played through on Furi, but practice moding Furier is looking good, since they've improved the boss patterns rather than just straight making them do more damage or something.

>>
>>344142651
I just started it tonight on PS4 and I feel like there's a delay between when I hit the dash and parry buttons and when they register but that might be my own shit play. Also some graphical stuttering but nothing major
>>
>>344142432
I honestly thought the edge was kind of underwhelming. The game's really more of a bullet hell than a hack n' slash, at the core of things. I did like the TRY PREDICTING AN OAR, FUCKER bit, though.

I actually liked the beat a lot. Thematically it was pretty cool to go from the strongest guy in here to an average girl who's just trying desperately to protect her home from you, the monster about to destroy it.

She also has one of my favorite songs in the game, coincidentally. https://furi.bandcamp.com/track/you-are-the-end

Man, it was kind of a dick move for the edge to be all friendly and courteous during his fight with the stranger when he should know that the only thing between him and earth is the fucking beat who's way in over her head

>Man, it was kind of a dick move for the edge to be all friendly and courteous during his fight with the stranger when he should know that the only thing between him and earth is the fucking beat who's way in over her head

That's what the build up dialogue was about though, he doesn't give a flying fuck about anything except being the greatest swordsmaster or whatever. If he wins, he's the best, if he loses, he isn't the best and he dies as well. He didn't care about the world.
>>
>>344142925
I kind of feel like I should give the developers money somehow. It's cool to get a free game and all, but I feel wrong after playing it and it was as good as it was to not give them a cent. These guys made mobile games before this, no right to be this cool.

Might buy the soundtrack.

tfw basically actually shilling

Yup. He's pissed because the game didn't auto-save and now he has to go through again.

>>
>>344110731
Why was she a "cheater"? And why was she talking about taking manual control at the end? That confused me.
>>
>>344143117
Hold R2 and release, it's a charge attack. You can dodge while charging, it's like the intended counter for those red AOE attacks in close quarters

holding a direction on the right stick actually is a damage buff, though.

>Man, it was kind of a dick move for the edge to be all friendly and courteous during his fight with the stranger when he should know that the only thing between him and earth is the fucking beat who's way in over her head

That's a really great point, I never even considered that.

But yeah, I also thought Edge was really underwhelming. Maybe because the melee combat in the game is so simple. Furier Edge was also pretty underwhelming, seeing how the only real thing that changed was that the attacks were a lot faster and you had to counterattack a lot faster.

>>
>>344146996
It saves the boss you're on. It doesn't save the progress of the boss you're on (IE if you're on boss 4, you can quit and reload onto boss 4, but you won't have the exact same health at the exact same time)

The main menu actually adjusts to the level you're on. It's pretty cool

anyone else having the issue with laggy dualshock 4 controls? I actually couldn't get the charge shot to work period at first. Eventually figured out that if I mashed R2 I would get it once in a blue moon so it wasn't totally busted.

I went into accessibility and changed R2 to R1 and started using the L1 dash instead of X - magically the game started controlling way better. This helped enough that I was able to beat a few bosses without any retries. Whereas before I could not get past phase 2 of not-Gateway, and phase 1 took FOREVER.

the insane thing is this is apparently not happening to every PS4 user. I have a launch PS4 so it's possible that they never tested the game on older/more worn down dualshock 4s. Which I have never heard of happening in a console game let alone one chosen for the spotlight of a PS+ launch.

Anyways I really liked the shield guy. The angel was fun until I got screwed over on the final phase, I was 1 hit from winning when I fell off the side. It respawned me right in the middle of a blue death zone and I took like 8 damage.

Beat it? Got to the planet, credits rolled. Stuck fighting the mothership boss.

As someone who grew up playing a fucktone of character action, but next to no bullet hell. I found The Burst to be the hardest/most annoying fight other than the one I'm stuck on. I found all the other bosses pretty easy in comparison. Opinions might change on Furier difficulty.

I don't think that's the case, I believe they are just thanking them as a respect showing. But yes, Yakashi worked in the game directly, the rest I'm pretty sure didn't.

The Star was cool but I wish the final boss was a mix of shooting and slashing instead of just pure bullet hell.

The Burst was like the perfect fight with a great mix of both things -- I guess The Star and The Edge were meant to boil it to down to its individual parts.

sadder is that people sympathise with them in the comments. Furi isn't even cheeky about playing on Easy mode (unlike some games like Ninja Gaiden) and I think that the difficulty is super fair.

i think the system is really good

seeing as the game works in very specific phases, the way the life and knockdown system lets you retry phases to get a feel of them a few times instead of immediately dying and having to restart

it's kind of like having an inbuilt practice mode

Self-loathing weabs then?

Also they called the originals cringy?! THEY MADE FEDORA VIRGIL! In all seriousness I think definitive edition is a decent 7/10 and a good entry level game to the genre. Original release is a low 3/10 tho.

Mercury Steam's director interviews where he showed how much of a manchild cunt he is are in Spanish, so they didn't have much traction.
Remember how butthurt he got at people complaining that it made no sense that Dracula had to turn into a rat for half the game?
>>
>>344162084
>Remember how-
Nope. I didn't pay attention pre-launch of LoS since there has never been a good 3D Castlevania with the Castlevania title. DS1 was the closest we'll get. Played it for 3 hours at a mates place, thought it was trash, never touched the sequels.

Then years later I backed Bloodstained.
>>
>>344162535
The Lords of Shadows games are actually pretty good from a mechanic stand point, hell I remember XLHGladiator saying it was one of his favourite games of the year -LoS2.
The director got mad because of the low scores and said they were "unfair".
>>
>>344162850
Too bad all the mechanics just remind me of better games they are ripped from. And does so without adding anything that makes me want to play LoS over said games.
