I also think like the basic skins (colonial stuff for brits) will be customizable too, but I dunno.
Basically vehicles spawn like jets in bf4 maps. You have to request them in the spawn menu and the person who requests them is a driver. They get a pistol and repair tool, and either an anti tank grenade or flare ( I think the grenade for tank crewmen and flare for pilots). The only vehicles that spawn without needing a driver are transport vehicles. It also means you can't steal a vehicle that's empty in spawn as you could in older games. You can steal them int he field if they become abandoned. Also you can choose what tank you want, So a team can have 3 or 4 light tanks and no other type because that was what was picked. or 3 landships. Samething for planes.

Are the bolt-actions good at range?
The game is literally BF1943 in WW1 with a touch of COD Ghosts feel in the setting. The aiming even feels like it. I don't know how this would settle with me considering that I'd buy for PS4 because I don't want to upgrade my gpu from a 660 to current gen.
I think I would like the game better if it was a fictional setting inspired by WW1 - say it takes place 2 years after germany managed to capture Paris and secure the western front or something. That would make the advanced tech and run & gun gameplay less irksome. I'm a sperglord though so whatever.

The Montedragon is a real gun, actually. Self-loading semiautomatic. It didn't see very wide service because it was expensive, so the Mexicans couldn't very many and thus the Germans weren't able to buy that much surplus, but they did have some. The assault class has 2 anti tank grenades but I dont even use them on tanks because they are timed, not impact. They also cant be planted as mines you have to run up and either find a tank sitting still or time it to blow up in their path. I just use them to blow up walls

i think you may want to consider that "realism" could be a sliding scale rather than an on/off switch. The scenario being presented to us in the game isnt perfectly historically accurate, but it has basis in fact and wouldnt have been in implausible thing to happen.
If what you demand out of your games is perfect historical accuracy then not only is this game not for you, but this entire franchise is something you should skip. Bending history just a little for the purposes of gameplay or narative is a longstanding tradition in battlefield games.

The choice of having a black protagonist will however spark controversy and get them tons of free advertising in the form of articles and forum posts exactly like these in this thread. Seriously though, isnt like 2/3 of the multiplayer cast black or can you edit your character fully like everyone keeps dancing around being a feature? Not just skincolor but the uniforms and stuff, there seems to be some differences between them Ive noticed even when they are the same class.

even today while i play alot less games i remember what i loved about those games as a teenager and why BF2 was my favorite game for years

1942 americans had garand, thompson, springfield, BAR, and a trench gun, while germans had ghewer42, karbiner 98, MP40, MG34
same goes for japs, brits, italians
this is the same with vehicles
BF2 had some unlockable weapons for all nations but base were nation specific (M16a2 for US/ AK74 for MEC/ type95 for china)
i dont go into detail about vehicles because there is so much to say you better just look it up
and this was battlefield up until 2 (2142 was scifi so i wont include it)
BF3 is where everyone got everyones weapons and where you could change soldier uniforms but vehicles we're still nation unique
havent played bf4 enough to make an opinion on it since the disaster it was on release put me off it
and now we get BF1 where nothing is nation specific (maybe the tanks?) and prototype weapons run rampant
the black soldiers is the icing on the cake with how disappointed i am with this game
obviously no one cares about my complaints on the military hardware issue that was staple of the battlefield franchise but "BLACK SOLDIERS" sticks out like a sore thumb and people will disregard all other issues i have with this shit

But at least those weapons existed. Plus, the Japanese did use MP-18s during World War II (I'm not talking about the type 100), and the Arisaka Type 38 was just a copy of the Mauser.
Anyway, plenty of those weapons existed at that time. It is much more realistic for a Russian to get a Lee Enfield, of which over 17,000,000 were made, than for a troop in World War I to somehow get their hands on an obscure prototype rifle with fewer than 100 made.
