>>344066675
Konami.

Alright!
Every SH thread requires the SH PC Guide + the DL links for the games:

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.
In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.
>>344066675
because Konami has always hated Silent Hill, they don't make games anymore, and last time they kinda tried something like that ("HD" "Collection") it flopped, hard.
>>344067324
here's the recommended emulator settings for SH1. Works great on all other games too.
The plugins used are:
-Pete's OpenGL 1.78; (more options & better performance than 2.x version)
-Eternal's SPU Engine.
alternatively just use a software renderer for very 1:1 PS1-like graphics, including 240p only.
...OR just buy the game from PSN Store for few bucks.
>>344067324
just gt them on psn store
Homecoming was the only good one. Any first timers, just ignore the rest
>>344067324
>>344067442
I always see these two posts in every SH thread.
It's like shitposting only without the shit.
>>344067629
you don't just "put them" on a brand new platform, bro. You need to do some wizardry to get PS2 titles run on 3 and 4 at all.
And because this is technically vidya development, Konami doesn't do it. They also still hope to make cash with the HD Collection.
>>344067982
it's called "being helpful",
or "spreading the love".
Is "The Order" really just a result of a mistranslation? I remember hearing that, and seriously wanting to believe it, but can't remember where it might be. I think it COULD be from a certain document in SH3, but I'm not sure.
>>344068161
Don't get me wrong I appreciate it very much.
It's just one of the few things that makes SH threads the best on this board.
They're always fun and helpful.
>>344068630
according to TP (the only source about the matter I've seen so far), the cult did not have a name at all in the Japanese version of SH3 and 4, nor was it called anything in SH1 in general.
The reason's pretty simple too: they were originally just Christians, who'd adopted some of the pagan elements of the area's natives, as that shit actually did something.
Apparently the localisator guy of SH3 did decide to "name" the cult "The Order", vaguely taking it from the way the cult was said to be very orderly and influential part of the town. He also apparently checked this idea with TS' writers, who gave it a green light.
>>344068630
Yeah, I think. If you're familiar with Lying Figure, I believe he spoke about that in one of his recent episodes. The Order was only used once in the Japanese version of SH1 and every other usage was cult. Something like that.
>>344069452
>mfw I found out there was drama with Twin Perfect of all things which is why Fungo left
>>344069452
Awesome, so they are and always will be "that weird cult". My dream SH never will happen, but will always be a possibility.
>>344068630
IIRC it wasn't a mistranslation and Owaku approved of it.
>>344070150
He might not've known the resultant implications of the name and just glossed over the decision.
>>344066675
Because Sony has nothing to do with Silent Hill. Konami owns the IP, and they are done with video games. We will never get new ports of the Silent Hill games.
>>344070326
More than likely but eh who knows.
>the director of the first Silent Hill made this game
WHAT THE HELL
Is it any fun?
>>344071104
Really is silly how hung up people get on it though. Sure, it's a dumb name, though what cults don't have dumb names? And it's not like the name itself made them less mysterious. We knew from the first game that they were nutjob fuckers trying to use a little girl to summon the apocalypse.
Sorry, "Salvation"
>>344073762
I don't remember why the name was such a big deal, but it was to me. I think it's because it gave more organization to the community of maniacs than it should have had, which both doesn't fit with the tone of the series, and also made it harder to write a new SH story. A bunch of vague, disorganized nutjobs aimlessly meandering about in the name of a vague, disorganized final goal was always the best villain for a game in a dream-like setting, mostly because some new antagonist could pop up out of nowhere with near any motivation, like Dahlia or Walter did.
>>344072274
It's ok if your into cute brown girls flying around. Don't expect any horror stuff as silent hill.
But yeah it's pretty fun IMO.
>>344073762
I know right? Giving an official name to the cult didn't change my opinion on them at all for being bat shit insane.
>>344074235
But that wouldn't make any sense. The first game again made it clear that the cult was fairly organized. Hell, they were using drugs to attract more members to their flocks, as well as keeping anyone who would get in their way under their control. That implies a lot of organization.
Now, in SH3, it can be argued they were far less organized, what with Vincent trying to fuck over Claudia (and Heather to some degree). Which is sensible as their apparent leader (Dahlia) was dead and their perceived savior spirited away by an outsider.
Certainly though, it can be said the way they acted in Homecoming (even if they weren't quite the same cultists) did come off as just Saturday morning villain than anything.

>Harry kicking Lisa in the shins while honking her tits
My sides were invaded by another world.
>>344066675
Because Konami is fucktarded to the extreme. They're so stupid and averse to making money that they've literally managed to loose the source code and assets to Silent Hill 2. Who knows what became of the other games.
>>344074838
LOL
That should've been in the blooper reel.
>>344074498
Sweet, gonna buy it then.
>>344075134
Not like having the source code would have helped much since the port team were literally a bunch of monkeys.
Seriously, did they forget how Bluepoint did an outstanding job with Ico/Sotc and the MGS games, all by ripping copies of the games onto PC and then reverse engineering them onto the PS3? Fuck, SH2-3 even have PC version, so literally half the steps needed to be taken were out of the way.
>>344075651
Did we just kill the thread?
>>344076478
What makes you think it got killed?
Has anyone got the Silent Hill Arcade thing to work?
>>344066675
Right after dragon quest 8...so never...
>>344075134
what has happened to my silent hill ;~;
