Why is this game such a fucking grindfest?

It's basically a book. I reckon it's on par with a decent sci-fi/fantasy novel, but that's about it.
>crpg's in a nutshell
Holy fuck don't even bother trying to play avernum, you kids won't get through the tutorial.

I would love a port for tablets, to read it on the couch
Reading 2 hard gang please save me from this game it doesn't even have killstreaks.

Avernum has a lot of combat though and not too much reading except when your in town checking all the dialogue for possible quests. Also what tutorial? I don't remember it having one, it just dumps your party into the starting town.

> Implying I can't read
I read it was a good game. I just didn't expect it to be a grindfest where all I did was doing the same thing over and over again. It's basically an offline-mmorpg due to all the fucking text grinding.

Why is every FPS ever such grindfest
>>344031587
It has more to read in it than the entirety of Malazan: Book of the Fallen
Fucking ADHD kids that can't sit still and read a bit should leave this board right fucking now.
>can't appreciate good writing
>never touched a book
>disdain for litterature
3 guaranteed signs of mental retardation.

why does this sound much worse

>talk shit about modern video games not having any gameplay in it
>at the same time complain about people who want more GAMEPLAY and less NON-GAMEPLAY
tbqh Planescape Torment is overloaded with information not necessary to progress through the main quest.
Really, it's more the fault of the wacky ass setting that depends on giving the player wall-texts of exposition than anything else (as counter example, NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer is Forgotten Realms but didn't need tomes of background information to follow).
>all the readfags ITT
Fuck off retards, if I wanted to read (which I often do) I'd pick a novel and read something actually well-written. When I play a videogame I want to do things that are exciting and fun. Dialogues are important in RPG games because they draw you into the game by creating illusion of choice and characterization, but there's a difference between brisk, witty dialogues and "Chris Avellone verbally shits his unrealised writer dreams on your face for 20 hours"
>>344030869
reading != grinding
>>344034556
I know what games you're talking about but comparing them to Planescape: Torment is the fucking most retarded thing you can actually do.
>>344034752
It's possible for a game to be well-written too you know.
>>344034240
>videogame
>good writing
Looks like you're the one who never touched a book, fagboi
>>344034752
replace "thread" with "video game"
>>344034752
like to read, huh? recommend me some books anon
No one better be talking shit about my gamefu
>mfw there is YA literature with better writing than this game
PS:T would've been much better off if the whole game was a point'n'click adventure. The detective, dialogue and exploration parts of the first half were the best thing about the game. Then after you get toRavelthe whole game turns into nothing but linear dungeons with shitton of unavoidable combat encounters, and boy does the combat and UI in PS:T suck shit.
>>344030869
>grindfest
I don't think you know what that word means, son
>>344037120
I can't be the only one who absolutely despises this UI. It was bearable in PS:T since it had minimal combat but I couldn't bear it in IWD2.
