Good. Given it's Firaxis I expect the first expansion to solidify it as great but it's still absolutely worth the money at this point.

I don't know why you would choose to get the console version if you have PC capable of running it, the mods add so much. And you can get it for like half the price of a console game.

Alien Hunters may well be the worst DLC of all time, it actively manages to make the game worse, and somehow topped Anarchy's Children in garish cosmetics. Fortunately it can be disabled or ignored, and nothing of value is lost.

Pretty good, preformance issues finally got patched and lots of mods. But the Anarchies children DLC definitely isnt worth it, plenty of free mods with the same or better cosmetics. The Rulers DLC is best played on a second playthrough since it wavers from intense to outright horseshit ass pulls.

Basically if you liked the first one you will like this one

if you play it correctly you should be minimizing rng as much as possible by alpha striking the shit out of every pod with grenades and removing enemy cover whenever possible. if you let the enemies actually shoot at you you've done something wrong.

It goes completely contrary to guerilla theme of the game and has been thoroughly discussed already.
I've beaten the game on legendary after release and timed missions were an exercise in frustration. Simply rushing to objective took as little as 3 turns with at least one alien pod patrolling it, while fulfilling the task usually triggered several pods at once.

On legendary research, clean-up, scan and build times are really slow so you struggle to catch up with advent in terms of killing potential until you reach new weapons tier.

I really like them as tanking units for the most part. The left path on the skill tree is really good, but i'm not a fan or the right one. My biggest complaint about them is that even with Tier3 armor they still have very low HP, lower than some soldiers. I guess it's to make up for their 4 armor but i really wish they were a bit beefier.

Nah, fuck off. I have 300 hours in the game and could do it, but it's not worth it. I ended the campaign right there and won't be playing with it enabled ever again.

Protips for Alien Rulers :
1 - Scout ahead with Scan or a Concealed unit. Baiting them into a Overwatch trap is one of the best ways to deal a ton of damage to them.
2 - Use the Bolt Caster. It takes getting used to but that thing is actually overpowered.
3 - Use Acid and/or Fire against the Rulers. They will take one tick of damage on every turn they get, and since they get a fuckton of turns it deals a lot of damage to them.

I guess they're more reliable in a defensive role but flashbangs deal some really nasty debuffs that turn threatening enemies into harmless ones.

Had a pretty crazy bout in mission where we had to get a sample from a truck.

Got a codex and its clone practically running circles on my best grenadier, while my ranger is edging in to help out as most of the team was stuck near the starting point picking off the first two pods of enemies. Then the queen comes run into, so I get my guys to shoot her up, but my ranger is now at her mercy, and possibly to be shot in the back by one of the codexes. Situation is not helped as he's hudled by a car next to a gas pump.

He fucking bladestorms the queen as she barrels toward him.

Performance issues. Game becomes easy once you get the jest of it and a rank 3 or 4 soldier, beat it without losing a guy. Story leaves you wanting in the end and feeling a little rushed. Queen zerker is overpowered, king floater rocket shower is overpowered, king viper is only difficult the first time you encounter it if you dont know it moves when you move. However the alien kings(except zerker) are relatively easy to handle if you take them by themselves.

Alien Hunters takes some getting used to, especially if you enable it like some people while way into a campaign. Hell, I swear they must have nerfed things with the update that came with Shen's Last gift, as the Viper King wasn't being nearly as big a bastard after my first encounter, which I just overwatched the faggot into portalling out. Still, it's fun how intense it can make an already hectic mission like a retaliation one. Plus the unique suits have some great powers like the viper tongue whip that can freeze enemies.

My only problem with the game is the sometimes wonky sight detection. I've moved most of my squad up and trigger nothing then when I move my last guy up to join he sees that one extra square and sets off a spawn chain. Fucking worst part of the game.

Sounds like a lingering glitch, as I sometimes have issues with the enemy sight detection appearing in some places, and then not until the last fucking moment after I've moved guys practically close enough to piss in an Advent's mouth.

Alien Rulers work a bit differently. Instead of them moving at the end of your turn they move (and attack, mind you) after one of your guys does (unless it's something like reloading with an autoloader). Each ruler also has a relatively nasty arsenal of attacks that can really fuck your shit up, especially if you're not too familiar with what they can throw at you. Unless it's something like the Snek King showing up after you get magnetic weapons (he won't fare too well) then chances are the next turn or two is going to be dedicated to fighting that alien. Once their time to show up has arrived they'll appear at random in mission, something that can really ruin your day if you're escorting a VIP. On the other it can make a standard mission a lot more exciting.

tl;dr ruler ayys can either completely fuck a mission or make it a lot more fun, potentially the former because Murphy's Law.

I imagine they might be up to something since the ending implies a Terror from the Deep setup. Of course, that could be a sequel hook, but I find it hard to imagine they'd tease something like that and make us wait another 4 damn years.

Still, I wouldn't past them to at least do an Enemy Within style update that throws in one more class, and mixes up the action in some way with a possible third-party coming into the fray.

There will be an expansion for sure but that should still be a good while away. If it's anything like EW it'll be announced around November and will release next February.
