I never said only, there's a lot of other abilities that let it do a great deal of effect. That said, it's a fucking team game. Pharah's ult is high risk but high reward, and if you can work out the kinks to it with your lineup then you'll do well.

Hanzo ult is good, but a Pharah ult with it just makes it 100x better. Same with a Reaper ulting after a Earthshatter.

Learn to use the ult properly, use it to combo with other ults, when flanking, when the enemy team is distracted. Also don't just save barrage for big team kills, use it to take out 2 or 3 enemies at once if necessary, such as tanks. Obviously if you use your ult when you're in front of people or they have their attention on you you're gonna get shit on. You gotta use at a time where you can get people by surprise and take them out quickly.

Because a character pick in your lineup is only as good as their ult, and there's no such things as counters.
Again, Pharah's ult isn't the best by a mile because it's extremely risky. But offsetting the disadvantages of it allows your team to make better use of it.

I realised recently why this game is so casualized: it was so bliz could sell it on consoles.
By limiting the number of abilities (hence buttons) and things on screen, this game is playable by the average console tard.

a)knock fuckers off points
b)knock fuckers off cliffs
And before I debunk these while you can trap someone in a corner and just kill them, the low DPS makes this a stupid use for an ult.
Now.
a)knocking fuckers off points is a legit start. If you're defending and one prick turns upto contest, then you can overpower them. But this is NOT what an ult should do. This is not a game winning manoeuvre, it's just finalising other efforts.
b)people who getting knocked off cliffs to a lucio or Pharah boop are understandable. You have no idea when it'll come, and both can be quite mobile. But you HEAR a chimp ult, and hence know to avoid cliffs. The fucker is huge as well, hard to miss
Plus, chimpston has SO many counters. You mentioned a hog ult. here's some more.

Dude I think you just suck shit as Winston. His ult maxes his HP to 1000 so if he has like 50 it's a lifesaver. His gun can fuck up any class that isnt a tank or reaper. His sheild is extremely useful for covering torjorn or bastion and also can be used in 1v1 for coverage. His ult is used for crowd control and not for damaging. Basically beat the shit out of everyone so they can't get on point while your team can focus on moving/defending the point.

Personally I think Molten Core is the most broken ultimate. It's 800hp which means that Junkrat's Rip-Tire ultimate can't dish out enough to take one down(600 damage) and on top of that Torb can heal it. The SG dishes out as much damage per second as a Soldier 76 ultimate but without needing to reload. It also has missiles for splash damage. Now that on it's own is a pretty powerful ultimate. But it also lasts 20 fucking seconds, 76's is 6 seconds. No other ultimate lasts 1/3rd as long. And then there's the buff to Torb's health and rate of fire on top of it all. It's pretty much suicide fighting an MC SG straight on. And if you're caught in the open when it alts you're fucked.
Also the SG has no tracking time. If the SG is firing at a teammate and you sneak around a corner there's no delay between the last shot and the one at you. The SG doesn't take time to turn and adjust. It can do an instant 180 swivel. Which means that the SG doesn't need to be looking at you to hit you. Seems pretty broken and shitty to me. It's more like a magic spell than a machine.
I wouldn't mind if Molten Core did 200 damage a second and had 1000hp(basically an autoaimed Widowmaker with Winston's primal rage health) but 20 fucking seconds? Come on I've got shit to do. The room has cleared and everyone caught in the open is dead. Lets get back to the match. Instead the team has to hideout for another 14 seconds for that shit to wear off.

Widowmaker can take him out in a few shots at range. Zarya can just pop her shield when she gets hooked and then proceed to take out half of Roadhog's health as she falls back to her team. Symmetra has high DPS as she dances around enemies. A few headshots from McRee can do a lot of damage.

Ultimate abilities are different for tanks you colossal fuckwit. Most, if not all tank-class ultimates are some form of crowd control or disruption that are less than lethal unless paired with teammates, in which case they are devastating.
Zarya ult requires teammates to capitalize its potential damage.
Reinhardt ult is a flat conical stun that does negligible damage, best paired with teammates when hammering multiple enemies.
D.Va is purely creating a death zone and forcing enemies to reposition in a wide area. Allows teammates to capitalize on the confused scramble.
Roadhog is a sustained pushback, rarely lethal unless idiots try to run back into you during it.
Winston ult excels in an area similar to D.va in that he is extremely disruptive during chimp-out. It's best used during a push so enemies are tossed about and cannot effectively fight the enemies around them.

Whole Hog is honestly better in small rooms/corners than at knocking people off. Too many people have an ability to get back after being knocked off but it's damage output is enough to even kill tanks if you get them into a corner.

That's silly. Why the fuck would you not want to kill them? That's an instant 10 second respawn for the enemy and resets whatever they were doing. At the end of the day, it's an FPS, and the most effective way to delay your enemies from delaying the cap/payload etc. is still to kill them outright and force them back into the spawn room.

Playing Mercy properly is literally just playing hide and seek. Once you have ult ready stand in a hiding spot near your team and await their death by multiple ults. Only heal if they come to you. Damage boost is worthless on anything but Pharah or automatic weapon users.
Dorado is the best Mercy map. There is dozens of places where you can Rez through a floor or wall and there's virtually nothing the other team can do to stop you.
