I miss 2007 /v/. The Yoshi threads of the time made me into the man I am today with a successful job and trophy wife.

Do you think that the yoshis of the mushroom kingdom are treated as citizens or as livestock? They're clearly depicted as rational, sentient beings, even capable of talking to the marios, but they're never seen talking to toads, and are usually depicted as mounts.

Yoshi's first appearance was in Mario World. If you remember, that game took place on Dinosaur Island rather than the typical Mushroom Kingdom. Up to this point, Yoshis had never been seen in the Mushroom Kingdom, but were present in many games after.
It's possible that the Yoshi race was transferred to the Mushroom kingdom to be used as horses not unlike African slaves. Perhaps Mario was the one who proposed the idea after discovering their immense versatility and mobility options and realized that they could be advantageous in battle.
As for how Yoshis are treated, we have never seen them be canonically mistreated, however the games themselves strongly encourage ditching Yoshi when a bad jump has been made. You could argue that taking them from their homes was bad enough treatment though, I suppose.

But Yoshis were also allowed to participate in parties and kart races. However tragic their backstory may be, they seem have integrated into Mushroom Kingdom society fairly well.
However, it seems to always be a green Yoshi in all of those games. Perhaps it is always the same Yoshi? Could it be that there is one Yoshi who was chosen to be the representative of all the Yoshi race? Is he the only one treated as an equal?

If Yoshis have indeed integrated into the Mushroom Kingdom society, it's not unlikely that they would have elected a leader in their fight for Yoshi rights.
If this is the case, then he's never been seen doing anything to progress the Yoshi rights movement. It's possible that he lost his way at some point during the movement. Maybe his status as an equal to the citizens of Mushroom Kingdom was brought on by some form of betrayal against his people.
