Why is this series so praised? It's grindy with a predictable plot and the most shallow shittiest characters you only find in generic anime like DBZ.

grindy doesn't mean you sit around and run around in circles to get fights. It means the battles are slow and mudane. You're just doing the same thing over and over and over until you kill the enemy. And since enemies have 10 billion HP you're going to be grinding for a long time chipping away.
