IT'S OVER, IT'S FINISHED!
SEGA BOUGHT AMPLITUDE

What's wrong with Sega buying amplitude?
>>343910947
DLC milking
Isnt that good?
>>343910947
Amplitude used to be independent. This meant they actually experimented with new gameplay mechanics and their DLC policy was reasonable.
Now that they have been bought by a big, cancerous publisher you can kiss all that goodbye. Expect overpriced cosmetic DLC and boring clones of the most popular games in whatever genre SEGA forces them to work on.
It's nearly but not quite as bad as it would have been if Paradox bought them.
>>343910040
Fug
>>343911524
Sega might be crazy for DLC but they tend to leave the core gameplay alone.
Total War is mostly unchanged apart from the rampant DLC which i concede is annoying
>>343911524
>>343910040But what if this means Amplitude can now do full-scale CGI movies for its games?

Damn it. I loved Amplitude for how they did everything. Never have I seen a company cater to its fans and actually listen to them and did their best to fix the problems in their game and make it better.
BLOOD DLC INCOMMING!
SHIEEEEET
>>343912372
See those space ships? They bleed now for just 4.99usd!
>Of course you could wonder, “Why Sega?” If you were to ask just Mathieu and I, we could easily answer with the words “Creative Assembly and Relic!” because we are HUGE fans of their games. The opportunity to join them is incredible for us, a real dream come true.
Can't fault their good taste.
I can't wait for the damage control once they start nickel and diming people with the DLC.
>>343913061
Relic hasn't done anything but DLC for CoH2 for the past few years. Creative Assembly has been doing shittier and shittier remakes of their once great game series.
Why
>>343913509
Damage control from who? Everyone, especially the people that buy SEGA games, are disgusted with the DLC. The only reason SEGA gets away with it is that it has some of the best vidya franchises hostage.
>>343913750
>>343910603
>What we want to do is to focus on making games; that is why we created Amplitude. But with the pressure on sales and marketing we found that more and more time was dedicated to everything else – everything that we didn’t have the size and scale to deal with. So we decided to look for the best partner we could to protect us from these distractions so that game development did not become a chore, but remained a passion.
>Therefore, we have decided to join forces with SEGA – yes, that SEGA! We want the only question that keeps us up at night to be, “How do I make better games?” Partnering with SEGA will bring us to a whole new level.
I should have bought all their games

Amplitude. They're already trying to justify selling out in the comments on their own site.

Because Amplitude cant into finance and marketing. They are literally that group of nerds that said they wanted to do nothing but make video games except they actually did it. They got fed up with dealing with valve and all the business parts of running a business.
So long as they negotiated their terms right there shouldn't be much of a problem. If it was a flat sell they fucked themselves over.
>>343917000
Amplitude already used the Korean fan translation for EL.

Tats because they make great games. They have stated multiple times that dealing with Valve gives them a headache and they hate it. Thats the whole point of this sale so they can stay in their basement make games and not have to do business related stuff.

literally the opposite
Maybe this will improve their marketing a bit. They have nice art and trailers, but don't do much to draw attention to their games. DLC is probably the biggest potential concern, rather than game quality.
>>343919538
The point was gearbox asked for X amount to make a game
Sega gave them the amount
Gearbox used majority of the cash to make marines
You can read more on that on your own
Sega still gives away loads of cash to its developers when need be
They didn't learn their lesson on lending cash which is okay or not to some .
They never forced dlc on relic or creative their project managers and producers did
That big nosed cunt from CA promotional videos for Rome 2 is the cause of the dlc , his influence came around the same time relic was being bought by Sega
>>343918218
But they designed such an op happy merchant faction. Surely they have at least one long-nose on the team?

Still, if it had to be one of the major AAA international publishers, I'm glad they went to Sega to be honest. Aside from the DLC shit, they seem to be okay with devs just doing their thing. All the other options just seem worse. Imagine if they went to Paradox or EA or Ubisoft.

Given how dead-set they were on doing their new thing for better or worse with CoH 2 is was at least expecting them to stick to their guns and use the CoH style of combat again which is basically a straight upgrade from DoW 1, but I guess not.
All those retarded 'muh epic scale' and 'muh basebuilding' faggots that screamed about DoW II being shit for seven years straight have ruined the series' future. I am not happy.
And as for the art style, that came right the fuck out of nowhere. DoW 1, CoH, DoW II and CoH 2 have all had a more detailed and 'realistic' look to them. I can't actually think of a single Relic game that shares DoW III's ridiculously clean aesthetic.

>>343942591
Its because of how shiny it is, it doesn't fit right.
>>343942831
They're trying to dominate a niche, so that if you like the genre you're bound to give them some money.

SATURATION
>>34394259
It's the lighting mostly.
It looks way too fucking glossy.
Also, the Eldar in this picture>>343941609 are static beyond belief.
The fact that they scrapped the directional cover system of DoW 2 and went back to the simplistic as fuck DoW 1 cover system is also super disappointing.
>>343943063
Meant to quote this>>343942591
>>343943063
>The fact that they scrapped the directional cover system of DoW 2 and went back to the simplistic as fuck DoW 1 cover system is also super disappointing.
Wait, fucking what? Relic is now actively going in reverse.
>>343942583
>an endless game rts
that would be cool as fuck, the nippon birds would go well in an rts
>>343910040
FUCK! I was looking forward to ES2 too.
>>343910040
>Now there's literally no dev studio out there to keep Firaxis honest
Focus still has some good dev teams.
>>343910040

Every screenshot so far has been in completely flat, open terrain a la DoW I with a few rings of space sandbags scattered about the place that look about the same size as a medium crater in DoW I.
DoW I fags were salty beyond belief about DoW II's small scale battles and so declared literally every single aspect of it irredeemable shit because it wasn't DoW I. They then proceeded to loudly piss and moan about it whenever DoW II was brought up for the next seven years or so while posting screenshots of clusterfuck mods like Ultimate Apocalypse (that look impressive but are no fun at all to actually play) to the point where nobody ever said anything good about DoW II because it would all devolve into mindless shitposting. And now we have DoW III, a game that is using outdated mechanics literally over a decade old now (with major aspects such as base building which don't make sense at all in the 40k universe for half the factions) because people complained too much on the internet about a game because it was too small scale for their tastes.
I am slightly upset about this.
>>343933428
A bunch of them survived the Dust Wars, they just fucked off from the galaxy with a few getting left behind.
>>343943371
es2 will be fine friend its their next project you got to worry about
>>343943294
they have gone grand strategy (ES), 4x strategy (EL) and even roguelike (DoE)
an rts seems like a proper continuation
>>343910040
What does this have to do with Firaxis.
>>343944068
I'm more upset that Relic RTS' always build upon the previous game, they've just took a huge step back for no reason. Its not even like DoW 2 did poorly either.
>>343944068
>>343944485
Oh, and a side note. I feel like DoW 3 is trying to pander more to people who don't play 40k.
>>343944327
i hope its a base building rts i prefer those
imagine the craver side of the map is completely rotted & dead
>>343942307
Surprise when its still shit
Who cares? Endless Legend was fucking awful.
>>343944470
Amplitude is the only dev that can push Firaxis' feces back into their anus until it come out on the hole
>>343944327
>Endless RTS
Here's hoping it's a not shitty planetary annihilation
>Tfw no other RTS game does multi planet stuff
cracking planetary defenses and finally getting a foothold was the tightest shit
>>343944693
It isn't though. It's no Attila, but it is still far from being shit.
>>343944609
How so? Dawn of War II wasn't exactly true to the tabletop either.
>>343939651
>>343939651
Nigga, it's a chair in a universe where the Apocolypse was brought on by a Humanity that transcended the mortal coil.
Literally SCIENCED magic into existence through near god-levels of Nano-technological advancement.
And has revived itself multiple times so far to continue the cycle.
OF COURSE IT FUCKING FLOATS.
SCIENCE AIN'T GOTTA EXPLAIN SHIT ANYMORE.
>>343944327
>grand strategy (ES)
Endless space was a 4x through and through, it's nothing like a grand strategy game
I didn't buy the amplitude bundle during the summer sale because I already had a shit ton of games on my backlog.
will this affect sales on it next time?
>>343944908
DoW 2 wasn't true to tabletop, but the unit sizes in particular resembled a tabletop army closer. A Space Marine squad can be almost twice as much as an IG squad, for example.
>>343944682
also i hope they use it as an excuse to have factions from both ES and EL
>Cravers & Necrophages vs Horatio & Cultist vs Vaulters & Pilgrims
>>343910040
Last game I played that was published by sega was alien isolation and that was great.
>>343945301
Stuff goes on sale on steam all the time, you'll probably find the same exact deal during halloween or even earlier
>>343945301
Probably not. Sega titles are all priced as normal. They even go through things like Humble Bundles.
>>343945229
I love this kind if shit
based Arthur Clarke
>>343946018
of*
>>343945229
Canonically, the Civ at the end of ES reach the Endless level technology, I really don't know how they will make ES 2
Welp, at least they put out a couple good games before turning into a dlc assembly line. I imagine we'll be getting a Warhammer 40K 4X game soon.
>>343946383
>>343946018
Honestly, as far as I'm concerned there are blockbuster hollywood ain't seen nothing yet tier lore writers working at Amplitude.
If anyone deserved a goddamn movie bundget. It's Amplitude.
But I'm a whore for Science Fiction. So I'm biased. Severely.
>>343946423
Nah, 40k revolves almost entirely around the sharp end of warfare. Grand strategy elements only really come into play as a way to string the battles together while having something to work towards.
>>343946709
Doesn't matter. Warhammer is a garbage, overused franchise but all of Sega's western devs have or are working on it and the only reason they bought this dev is to use them for that. I guarantee it.
>>343946383
The teaser had some time travel shit if I remember correctly
>>343946984
>and the only reason they bought this dev is to use them for that. I guarantee it.
GW's change in licensing approach is probably because they were locked in with THQ.
>>343946652
>tfw half botswanian
love the cowboy metalheads
>>343946984
As much as publishers may be evil or dumb, it makes no sense to buy a studio with its own ip and fanbase to work on stuff they already have another developer for.
>>343946984
>Relic was making 40k games long before being bought by Sega
>CA got the rights to WHFB around five years ago simply because they wanted to make a Fantasy Total War and the Warhammer setting was the best fit for it
>they are the only two of Sega's studios that have ever worked on Warhammer games as far as I can find
I think your tinfoil hat is on a little too tight there buddy.
>>343934408
Not giving you a full translation but
They sold 1,5 mil units of their games
Amplitude shows how lively indie gaming is and how great France is (at games)
They did really well to get where they are, they have a big office in Paris now but they started in a craptastic apartment making no money
Digital downloads are really great for indie game makers, they sell or hope to sell 70% of their units as digital downloads
They used crowdsourcing to help them learn how to make good games
Being independent/alone gives them freedom and flexibility
