I actually pre-ordered it but it still hasn't arrived
I am playing it with the patch and the lack of vn elements and actual difficulty in battle especially in the grinding arena makes it fun.
The Idol story is meh and fun sometimes, it seems to be Nintendo's, Altus made, persona ripoff. I actually like it more than Persona 4 since persona feels like a power fantasy for jap and weebs, and while this one is trying that with the idol shit, it fails and that is for the best.
Also the combat is good if you fight stronger enemies and you will get your ass handed if you dont pay attention.
Also Mamori is a really useful character. The Lorenz fight is fucking great.

It's pretty sad, really. None of these gripes ruin the game, but they're certainly off putting. Doubt you will convince him, gameplay is good, but RPGs are still only RPGs and they are not famous for their excellent gameplay, chances are that what your brother loves the most about SMT is the settings, characters and demons. Atlus dropped the ball hard on this. Had it been ANYTHING BUT IDOLSHIT, this game would've been considered a fantastic game by a lot more people. Didn't even need to be related to FE or SMT, just be Atlus' Wii U RPG. Maybe start a new series, make it a new IP.
