The point of a robot is to be autonomous. In order to be autonomous, it needs a great variety of methods to move around and interact with its environment. The best way to do that is with the human form.
Specialization will always have its drawbacks.

Individual machines can open a door, turn a wheel, or climb a ladder, but they never do all of these things.
Humans can, because of the way our bodies are designed.
We're suited for any sort of movement. Vertical climbing, walking along a flat or varied plane, manipulating objects in almost any way imaginable.

It's not necessarily that they're better, but they certainly have the potential to be. It's that machines are cheaper than humans and because of their unique attributes they can do things that we can't.
They can go into a highly radioactive power plant which would cost the life of a human.

I couldn't stand the over-the-top mock-hardcore thing they had going on. It was kind of like borderlands in that regard, a game that was made to parody the genre but went way too far and came off as taking itself too seriously, like a joke that just doesn't know when to stop. I found a lot of the reasons I hated borderlands were the same reasons I hated Wildstar.
Even down to the level-up messages (shit like "GREAT JOB, CUPCAKE") the game was always in-your-face about how much of a parody it was trying to be, and that just became wearisome. I genuinely wanted to like the game because the artstyle itself was pretty top-notch and the gameplay was better than the other MMOs I was trying, but I just found myself resenting it more and more.
If they eased up on the parody a little bit and let the game take itself seriously as a setting instead then it might be more fun and attract more players.

There's simply no profit in appealing to hardcore fans any longer. Or rather, the profits are far larger if you don't. How do we solve this though? If games fail then we stagnate, if games don't fail then we get more of the same, if the market crashes we're out of luck completely for who knows how long. Shit sucks to be a fan of anything other than mainstream shooters, mobas, or simplified MMOs.

Personally I haven't bought an AAA game for a long time. They just all feel so samey, you know? Open world.Probably has some kind of stealth element. Markers telling you where to go, because that open world is basically a desert with nothing interesting except in limited areas and it's far too big to explore normally. Simplified combat.
I ended up playing a lot of games by medium or small sized companies, there's a lot of games that just don't get much attention but are actually pretty good. I guess that's the way forward. If a company isn't making games you want, ignore them. Let the AAA makers continue making AAA games for casual players, it's fine. I can go elsewhere and find games I like.

That's what I've been doing too, it's just a pity I won't be able to find the games I like with AAA production values behind them. All the shit they cram into modern Battlefield games is pretty cool, I wish I could get that technology in my CRPG.
