V-2 is a decent game, though it was supposed to be split into 3 games but they merged that all in so the pacing is fast on some parts.
Generally Part 1 is the best you can get in any Nep game and in all seriousness it's a good game.
Though the first part is going to be cheesed easily (being the only section in the game with at least an inch of difficulty due to limitations) mostly because of the starter packs and DLC characters.
Which is a shame, but I'm sure the PC people would had used a CheatEngine or something similar to blaze through that part so nothing was lost either way.

You can either play the Rebirth games (1-3) which are remakes of the original ones, or you could play the original games and then move into the remakes.
I'd suggest maybe playing the very first game, which is on the PS3 since it is a bit different from the remakes and has a lot of things the newer games don't have.

They made some nice improvements, like the Mega(?) mode on top of the normal CPU transformation and all the new skills that require some positioning.

If you like the exploration aspect of roaming around a worldmap, finding treasure in dungeons and exploring cities and towns with interesting NPCs, you will be heavily disappointed.
If you like (j)RPG for their simple, yet emotionally intense story telling you are also likely to be disppointed.
If you like RPGs for the strategy or the challenging combat you also will be very disappointed
Are you looking for quick, responsive combat with decent animations ang very satisfying sound design, but where all animations, even basic attacks can be skipped for quickness sake?
A simple yet satisfyingly good grinding experience, with a lot of "Kill X monster" and "Fetch Y Drop" with most of the bullshit traveling/talking to NSCs pretending there is a story behind it taken out?
Said grinding only periodically being interrupted by low brow humour with cute girls and a big cast with diverse but stereotypical anime personalities?
Then the game is for you.
If you don't like these kind of things nepgames might not be for you.
To me they have exactly the right combination between the above elements and ever since the first game they only evolved on the casual grinding experience making it more smooth with quicker animations, better ingame databases and stuff like that. They are very efficient time wasters where you can shut off your brain, grind out some shit, maybe listen to a podcast or watch a video on the side and still feel satisfied afterwards.
That is why I absolutely love these games, but I totally can see why someone would not like them.

Playing through it currently. Executive Guage resets every battle, some enemies have parts that can break, combo skill slots are tied to the weapon you're using, negative status effects remain after battle. I still think it needs a lot of improvement. Also there's random battles in the overworld. Mostly fodder enemies but still annoying when a large group appears.

Having played two routes and having just got through theextremely death flaggythird OP, I can happily say if the jump in quality from this game to the next game is as big as the jump from v to this game, we might actually have a pretty good game next.
As it is right now it isn't bad, just not very good. The third opening is one of the best in the series and if it's any indication of the quality of the third route, it should be pretty good.

Go for efficiency attacks when you get a new character. That SP boost from challenges is helpful early on. It isn't hard though so there isn't any need to grind. Remember to go to your combo skills when you equip a new weapon since it changes which combo slots are open.

HDN1/ReBirth1 are complete different stories from the other games.
MK2/ReBirth2 are connected to V/Rebirth3 but is disregarded because of how bad it was.
So if anyone is interested in the series, you can probably just start at ReBirth3 and then start playing VII and you won't be completely lost.
ReBirth1/2's gameplay sucks anyway.

There is a big emphasis on positioning and buffing, but the real challenge comes in building a party with the right equipment and high friendship. The weak points are enemy AI - there is none - and exploration. The maps are small and barren.
