It's probably not the best from a technical point.
That being said, the world design, the amount of foliage, the sheer variety of locations and how everything comes together in the world is incredible.
Each area has a completely different and unique feel to it. It becomes even more apparent with B&W. I really thought Toussaint will just be Velen with more sun but after going back to fuck around in Velen and Skeliige you can see how different everything actually is.

Games have been plagued with poorly formed, steep, impossible, wart-shaped video game mountains for two fucking decades, hardly anything has even begun to faithfully represent how flat the earth typically is and how actual elevated terrain formations truly look, because A. Devs are lazy, B. the scale needed is quite momentous, and C. some shitty engines require a fucking hill every 50 feet just so you notice the upper limit of the rendering distance.

To contribute to the general thread, I'd say that Witcher 3 isn't THE prettiest game I've seen on a location-by-location basis. You zoom in and you're gonna find some low-res textures and some weird geometry. But in the massive scope of the game, being able to create a holistic vision of a world that makes sense and has a wide range of biomes and geography, it's absolutely stunning.

You can enjoy the 3rd one without playing the previous ones, but it's much better if you know the story. And I don't see why not? The previous games were also great. The first witcher is a bit hard to get into due to strange fighting system, but it's awesome when you get used to it, and it's the comfiest one of the series. Witcher 2 is actually very similiar to Witcher 3, except it has more closed off locations and the plot is generally more densely packed. It's also pretty short because of that but due to a lot of meaningful choices it has a lot of replay value.
Also, if you want to actually fully understand the story, characters and what the hell is going on I definitely recommend you to read the books, they're good.

Play it on the hardest difficulty. To be honest, I found it harder than DS3 at times, but then again, the Soul series is starting to feel easier now that we are on our 5th game in the series.
Try doing some of the side quests, and exploring the "?" areas. They help expand the world and make it feel more alive. I loved raiding the bandit camps and having settlements move in. Storywise, you'll probably do fine, but you needed to play the other games to understand it....at the very least should have played W2.

I loved Unity's graphics except for one big problem- the lighting indoors and upon transition from indoors to outdoors. It's like the Animus is super light sensitive all of a sudden, where a motherfucker goes blind stepping out onto the street and can hardly see his hand in front of him inside. Turning off bloom helps, but it's deeper than that.
Syndicate improved on that particular bit immensely, the shadows were spectacular, particularly on the characters' faces. That being said, the models in Unity were far more on the Realism side, and mostly incredible. The redhead GF character was wonky as FUCK tho. Her hair and face were just... really, really offputting, especially compared to the great concept art they had for her.

I'm not sure about pure "grafix" for beauty, but the terrain and vegetation is better than any other game I've ever played. Never have I had the desire to ignore fast travel before TW3. I genuinely love riding to my destinations because each part of the world is hand-crafted. It makes exploring that much more interesting, because you're not just looking for things, you're actually looking at the world around you.
And it's not hand-crafted in the sense that some dude went over a flat plane and created some hills and whatnots every so often so that everything is more or less a series of plateaus, as is the case with games like fallout and TES. Certain parts of the TW3 have odd slopes that go on for hundreds of yards and are integrated into the terrain around it.
If you've ever been in any sort of wilderness in real life, TW3 feels like the real deal.
