any guess as to what happened between 999 and ZTD that made him so moody?
>>
THEY WERE TRADING ORGANS LIKE COOKIES

i felt like the transition from 999 Junpei to ZTD Junpei was fairly natural. Even from 999, you can see that Junpei is willing to fuck people over just so he can hang out with Akane (i.e. essentially trapping a bunch of people by going through door 3)
>>
Yeah, I think the explicit explanation given by the character himself in ZTD might have given me enough material to sketch down a theory.
>>
I always wondered what Junpei and Sigma studied. Carlos was a nice welcoming change of protags when they at least explained what he does for a living.

I just don't give a fuck about them.
>>

>>

Q had the best puzzles
>>
Huh, the biolab wasn't as bad as I thought. The only part that got me was with the ring thing.
>>
>>343864957
Hardboiled detective adventures with people dying all the time and the trauma from 999 since he remembers his deaths in other timelines?

That and a silly buddy cop adventure where he did more against FtS than Akane and Sigma did with their 45 year convoluted plan that involved timetravel.

Really, who knew that all this time they just had to put Junpei and Seven on the job.
>>
>>343865576
Fuck Biolab, but I hate the Rec room, Reactor, and Healing room more so I agree.
>>
>>343865686
Are you pitching ZE4 to us?
>>
>>343865201
Junpei quit school, and isn't Sigma a mechanic?

>>343865382
Sean carries Q team.
>>
>>343865680

i got stuck in the biolab for like 20 minutes because I didn't know you had to put the tray into the microwave

maybe i'm just retarded, but i had no idea either of those items were even related
>>
>>343865768
Nah, Sigma was a college student. He mentioned something about having a Buddhist professor in VLR.
>>
>>343865060
And we don't know how he was outside of 999. Maybe he was already depressed and felt hollow.
999 and cookie organs was too much and he broke down.
>>
>>343865739
ZE4 is about Delta in the original Nonary game in the Titanic anon, I am just proposing a spin off detective game with Seven and Junpei.
>>
>>343865717
All of those were easier than Biolab. In fact, I'd argue the only bullshit puzzles are Transporter and that fucking lazer puzzle for the nuclear reactor
>>
>>343865768

no, sigma is a college student (he just dresses funny).

the 22 year old version of him is kidnapped while he's submitting at paper and he mentions he's working on his phD
>>
>>343865768
Sigma was still studying(working on his doctorate) when he was kidnapped. Anyways it doesn't really matter what he was studying because he became a master of genetics, computer programming, biology, and multiple engineering fields in 45 years he would've been successful no matter what

>Transporter puzzle

Maybe it's because I'm naturally good at maths, but I didn't find it that hard.
Although I got stuck with inputting the start code because I didn't think touching the core opened the input console and I kept trying to input the code on the pentagonal display.
>>
>>343866267

i didnt even use much maths to figure out the transporter puzzle

i just played the card game a few times and wrote down which symbols were greater than other symbols. once you figure out about 4 or 5 of them, the rest falls into place because prime numbers and shit
>>
It was the snails

It's always the snails
>>
>>343865868
Transporter isn't bullshit, it's just tedious picking up and using cards.
The lazer puzzle in Reactor is why I mentioned it.

Biolab isn't even difficult really. It's just as >>343865769 mentioned, where there wasn't really an indication as to why a centrifuge cover had to irradiated.
>>
>>343866267
I didnt think to touch the core. There's a lot of dumb shit that just stopped me in my tracks in the puzzle rooms. Like the lid with glow in the dark letters in the locker room. I was just amused at Diana and Sigma's dialogue entering the shower room together.
>>

>>
>>343865768

>>
>>343866267
>>343866557
Fair enough, I just had no trouble with Biolab because I have an habit of using every item on everything, which is probably why I also fucking hated Transporter
>>
>>343866614
He really should've been a young version of left but for some reason they wrote some random kid into Brother's backstory instead of going with the established character
>>
>>343866679
Transporter was easy once you read the book and got an idea of the images being numbers in a base 13 system, after that is just thinking of how it could work and how the multiplications worked.
>>
>>343866679
I was stuck in the biolab because I forgot to check the colored cells with the microscope. I felt like an idiot.
>>
Biolab was probably the easiest puzzle for me, I don't understand how anyone had any problems with it.

>>
>>343866896
Same like lasers for me. I solved it in 10 minutes with a bit of trial and error. I was also stuck in the manufacturing room because I didn't know you have to press the grey button very precisely to set the timer.

Everyone knows about him but not about Sean, whenever any of the other teams talk about Q they're referring to him.

You were always watching the game either from his perspective or from the cameras in the shelter that he could see through his HUD glasses (basically they are the same kind as those you build in the control room). There is actually quite a bit of foreshadowing about him, an anon posted a list yesterday.

I think people would have liked the twist more if his character was fleshed out better.

Only puzzle that got me where the shift 7 down in the library. I thought the numbers had to be shifted down so the 05 / 03 went 98 / 96.

When I tried the reverse I also reversed the letter and it fucked my results too.

But all of that was my own fault. The puzzles in general for ZTD were the worst of the trilogy by far and A LOT of puzzles had solutions like "go input what is in this card there in a different way" instead of actually solving shit in a clever way. I see complains here about the laser puzzle in the reactor room but that sort of shit was the good stuff, made you think, even if just a little.
>>
>>343867627
I get a motive so complex.
>>
>>343867254
Mira killed innocent people so she must be punished according to Delta. Why he didn't do it in other timelines or why he chose to strangle her can be chalked up to comples motives.

>"there's 3 virus things here, so we got to inject them right? but not on that old guy, fuck him"

Q didn't do the fingerprint thing in the first place.

I don't really like the twist, but those two are actually handled.
>>
>>343868095
>Mira dies
>"i'm going to kill everyone so I can get the real killer, but not this old guy, fuck him"

You actually hear four gunshots when he kills Sigma, Diana and Sean, so he killed Q too.
>>
>>343868095
He wasn't just 'that old guy', in the 5 days they spent with him at dcom he was established as being totally incapable of interacting with anyone around him. No one had any idea that dcom was basically being run by free the soul so they had no reason to question that. On top of that, Mira was working for him to begin with, Eric does kill Delta in that scene, and there were only three finger pricking things. It's pretty consistent on these notes.

>>
>>343868095
Copypasted from Reddit since I don't have the picture anon made:

Clues that Q is Delta, the 10th participant:

1) Literal shadows from Delta in most Q team scenes (here are the shadows from Pop-off, for example).

2) "The old man in the wheel chair" dialogue

3) If you try to select "Q" in the "who to shoot" scene, it will say to select Q's real name. If you input "Sean," it will give an error. If you choose "me" or "myself," the game will say "you cannot commit suicide." - Credit for expanding this goes to overchargext

4) If you say that "Q" killed Mira, Eirc will say "that's impossible!," and if you select "Sean," or "me," he'll say "I knew it was you!" - credit for expanding this goes to Ro9ge

5) "The truth is invisible" anagram

6) The parasite discussion

7) Carlos/Diana not knowing why they pressed the decontamination button, or the bad execution choice (mindhacking). Sean never claimed he didn't do it, as he can't be mindhacked.

8) The anagram about the 10 that Akane finds

9) The scene after the radical 6 is chosen to not be injected where Eric talks to Gab and calls him "Old man," he is actually talking to Delta. Both Eric and Mira are looking to the screen (to Delta), and Sean asks if they could speak. - Credit goes to untuned of the Something Awful Forum, and to Ro9ge for elaborating.

10) Q never has a portrait in the status screen, but there is one of Sean inside the Study - Credit goes to YoshiOfYellow of the Something Awful Forum
>>
>>343869469
Eric really makes you forget that he has a legitimately shitty backstory really fucking quickly. Being little more than a loud asshole that waves around a gun for the most important parts of the game doesn't help.
>>
>>343869636
11) "Even Q ... he couldn't see or hear when" (when talking about Q team execution) - Credit goes to voltcatfish of the Something Awful forums)

12) Sean in Pop-off says "you are all really important to me" rather than "you both are really important to me," despite the fact he only knows Q team.

13) When Zero tells Sean about the "old man" who visited him.

14) Eric says "I know the leader's supposed to decide who to vote for but...", because Delta is believed to be blind and deaf - Credit goes to Ro9ge

15) Eric is suspicious of Sean because he isn't on the X-passes - Credit goes to Ro9ge

16) If you try to shoot Mira, she will shoot twice before the X-pass notification comes on, because she also shoots Delta - Credit goes to Ro9ge

17) Despite the fact that Carlos seems to know Q, he doesn't recognize the robot that looks like Sean - Credit goes to zatchel1

18) Towards the end of the C-team ending, when listening to the recording of Zero, Zero specifically says that he's dead in this timeline, and that Carlos executed him. This is also the timeline in which all of Q-team dies because Carlos decided to execute Q team. - Credit goes to Ro9ge

19) After Phi and Delta and delta are born, the status screen shows Q and Phi alive. Status before birth and status after birth - Credit goes to YouWithTheFace

20) Decision game starts with "deci," which means ten - Credit goes to ultramario1998.

21) When Sean decides to stay behind after pressing the Decontamination button, he is staying behind for Q, and it becomes clear with close examination that Q is also chained, and Q is the one staying behind. Sean is looking at the Camera (at Delta) when he says that he stayed behind because of him. And when they try to unchain Q, they are always trying to get it off the pole, and not off Gab's paw. Here is an image that demonstrates this.. - Credit goes to Ro0ge, and BloodTrain for the image.

So what exactly was the point of hiding Q from the player? Every single participant new about him.

In VLR Sigma's twist was hidden because he didn't know about it and we were playing through him. In Ever17 it was necessary for the twist to be hidden from the player for story reasons.

But I can't think of any reason for Q being hidden, besides just for the sake of having a twist.

For one, it hides a bald, "blind" and "deaf" man with creepy sunglasses who couldn't verbally defend himself from immediate suspicion from the player. It also doesn't make a lot of plot sense for the other players to defend him outside of cursory observations, since they've only known him for a few days.
Additionally, because the whole game is from his perspective (either directly through his eyes, or through the camera feeds in his glasses), it gives a convenient cover as to why we would never really see him.

When I first had the twist revealed I was kind of pissed off at how stupid it was until I thought about it a bit more, but I wouldn't say it was perfect or that his motives were particularly complex.

I understand reasons behind the twist but I just don't think there's any justification for it. The other teams didn't know there were 10 people in total but so what? If they knew about Sean it wouldn't have made any difference, and they already knew about the old man.

When Delta was revealed the only person surprised at his existence was the player, which is what made it feel cheap.

I'm still more pissed at the stuff that had more build-up than "?" (like Kyle), but I do see the problem here now. Besides the whole alien technology thing, I think my biggest disappointment about ZTD was how limited the character interactions were. I was worried ever since they revealed everyone would be restricted to teams.

A lot enjoyment I got out of the other 2 games was seeing how all the characters interacted and clashed and I felt the game was really lacking due to that restriction. I understand why Uchi did it that way, but I would've loved to see the whole cast interact more than the little we see in the true ending parts.

Hmm, I've been hanging around these threads since I finished it the day after it's release and I don't think I've seen anyone call it perfect.

From what I see people universally agree the ending was at most sub-par and the game could clearly be improved in all fronts had it not been for budget issues.

It's not a matter of denial if one clearly enjoyed the game but are willing to accept that it could've been better.

Just finished the game. Love the attention to the music even if Blue bird lamentation was a tad bit used too much imo. Shed doesn't have the impact she did in VLR but oh well.
I feel complete.

>>
>>343876989
I almost agree, but I was thinking about it earlier, and as you probably have also realised, it just gets too messy with 9 people interacting all the time. It was one of the problems with the previous games, really; establishing "NUH U MITE B DA BADDY" over and over got tiresome, and the only times anything could actually happen was when they split up. It was always more interesting splitting them into DIFFERENT groups each time though.

Really, I think ZTD is a "take what you got because you're lucky it happened at all" kind of a thing. A shame, but... y'know. Everyone's said it already, ZTD wasn't bad, and some of the highlights - Carlos' Bizarre Adventure, for one, and the hope of two ending for another - were fantastic. But it really isn't as great as it should have been, and we can entirely thank Danganronpa (a series I also like but for different reasons) for stealing the spotlight.
>>
>>343877323
Lurk around more. I don't mean that as an insult but there is a shocking amount of posters who do believe that the game is great and wonderful for what it is, with little-to-no problems. And sadly, they seem to be the most vocal in dealing with dissenting opinions, displaying extreme childish behavior like throwing a tantrum or resorting to immediate personal attacks. The post two above yours is a great example.

I'm all for someone having an opinion but if your opinion has no support other than assumptions and name-calling then your opinion is empty.

You're saying Uchi is a child who can't take criticism? To clarify, that was who I was referring to.

It's just that a lot of posters here seem to think that the criticism actually does have a purpose, and that purpose is to assure that Uchi doesn't fuck up another game. You make it seem like it's a lost cause.

Sorry for the lack of clarification.

I'm all for informing Uchi, but I think it's difficult to do so in an effective way and that's where I see the issue. For example, if ZTD isn't critically acclaimed, Uchi may rethink how he approached the game but may not grasp the real issues that people had with it.

This definitely seems like more of a thing that has to be resolved over an open forum with his fans...which, I admit, sounds unlikely.
>>
So, I've been avoiding these threads whilst I play the game myself, so this theory may have already been brought up. It's about the story with the snail and the people involved.

I have reason to suspect that Mira is actually killed by her younger self.
If you read the logs at the end of the game. Sean breaks Mira out of jail and encourages her to use the transporter room to go back in time to stop herself from murdering anyone.
Eric and Mira jump transport back in time, but they can't pinpoint the date correctly.
Mira knows where her first crime happened and begins to jog along that path everyday. Eric calls a cab for when Mira finishes her jog.
One day, Mira sees the snail and goes the other path, ultimately to her known death. Eric gets arrested because he knows Mira and the rest of the chain happens.
I also think that the old man in the hospital is Delta, the old couple is Phi's adoptive parents.

there are two problems, one that the accused man was akane's father, the other that the killed woman was implied to be eric's mother

And I agree. I think he should be informed of the main issues that many people have but in an efficient and informative way, without smoke being blown up his ass where the only communication he would receive involving the game being decent and excellent with no flaws mentioned.

Of course, I have no idea how to go about this either, and personally, I expect nothing useful to come from the Q&A.

>>343879502
The jogger is Eric's mother who is murdered by Mira. Akane's father is falsely accused of the murder which causes Akane's mother to become an hero. You're right about the old man in the hospital being Delta while the young boy needing the operation is originalSean.

Fuck no, I hate when people say this. I'm a huge Junpeifag, but he's not the same as Eric. The only thing they have in common is that they're willing to fuck people over for the woman they love and Junpei did the same shit in 999 and Quark in VLR.

Their personalities are completely different. Junpei is way more calm and calculating in backstabbing people while Eric just looses his shit over any tiny thing. The only time Junpei gets super mad is when Carlos fake rapes Akane and that's totally justifiable.

Basically, while Junpei's decisions are rooted in emotional feelings, he's way more rational than Eric who just loses his shit over everything at the drop of a hat.

Honestly the biggest Bullshit thing about the Delta twist is that Eric and Mira IMMEDIATELY start calling Q Sean instead of "kid" and such, and it's really inconsistent.

A better solution would have been to have them have a conversation where they ask him what his "real" name is and he answers Sean. That way the player is still baited into thinking he is Q, and it doesn't seem off that they randomly start referring to him by the "right" name.

I'm not really saying whether or not he can't be hispanic, but do you think Uchi actually intended that to be the case? All we have is his and his sisters' names to suggest that he might be, and I know a white Carlos.

Also isn't Carlos also a Portuguese name?

It's just very poor written twist. It's rediculous how character ignores his existance even if he's most suspicious old fuck ever. There is tons of moments in game where we see room with Q team from above with only three of them. It's afwul. Sigma's foreshadowing has tons of dialogues.
>>
>>343881650
Sean isn't Left. Sean is a kid that died due to taxi getting crashed and surgeon not being able to save him after the woman's (Akane's mother) death. Left was a son of foster parents of Delta back in 1904.
>>
>>343881602
In-game he gets drunk after a single beer bottle, so I don't buy the whole hard boiled alcoholic bravado he tries to sell.
Meanwhile D chugs enough firewater for another indian genocide, and still manages to move.

...But isn't that whole 10 months just a way of having Akane and Junpei survive for the VLR timeline? To me, it just looks like Carlos was exploited to reach that narrative end. He doesn't even have a real role in VLR--he's just dumped.

I'm just saying this because there's a good chance that in another timeline, he did try to stop Zero.

The pink one, right? Same, but if you click on it they read all the directions out to you so w/e.

Just finished it on 3ds, the timer and SW being impossible to see are both true (and there was also laughable slowdown at one of the points during the outbreak end path where people are running in and out of decontamination) but overall perfectly fine.

Door 3, he shows he's willing to potentially leave everyone else to die just so he can be together with Akane. Even if it didn't happen in the true ending, it still showed his potential for assholery.

Plus, I don't see how people don't understand why he changed after 999. Before then he was pretty naive and trusting of people, but then he gets put through a death game and afterwards he gets ditched by the woman he woman he saved without a word from her. He then spends a year being exposed to the underbelly of society and experiencing a bunch of other fucked up shit. It honestly felt like a natural development for me.

Plus it's not as if he's full edge the entire game, there's various parts in the game when you can tell he's still the same goober inside like the rec room fragment or when proposes.

He's not really a mary sue since he fucks up a few times and goes through a bunch of logical steps to reach proper conclusions just like any normal person. The whole transporter idea was probably his most impressive one anyways.

People like Carlos because he's just a normal guy trying to do good things. He has a sister he should be taking care of, but still tries his best to save everyone when he can although he tends to forget that every timeline where he's dead means leaving his sister alone.

So what was a bigger disappointment ZTD or hotline miami 2?

Let's think.
Carlos use teleport and jump before the Dcom experement. Now second Carlos, like Phi, exist in different timelines.
In the end of ZTD Eric, Sean and Mira going to use teleport and prevent murders, prevent SNAIL mambo jambo. That means...
>>
>>343885156
Delta was quite a zombie already.
>>
>>343885198
ZTD is fucking great, we're bitching about it because this is basically what one should do on /v/
>>
>>343885251
But zero foresaw this and it turns out the reason why she died is because sean mira and Eric went back in time
>>
>>343885359
Let's no delude ourselves : it had problems, but mostly the ending. I also think it was a great ride, just that the destination was disappointing
>>
>>343885410
my favorite asspull theory is that Eric is his own father and Mira killed herself.
>>
>>343885359

nah, it's mindblowingly stupid.

>no kyle
>aliums out of nowhere
>everything about delta
>mira being the hamfisted snail

The last one is really egregious. Uchi could have easily come up with something more compelling than a random serial killers causing all of this. Maybe saving the life of someone... anything.
>>
>>343885497
I liked the ending but disliked details like the Transporter or the absence of Kyle
>>
>>343885535
That would make sense and explain why Erics mom constantly insist they should smile
>>
>>343883992

No. In the end, Delta did the things he did for the sake of mankind. I could also kill Akane for causing deaths of everyone numerous times in 999.
>>
>>343885359
Obviously, /v/ is mostly filled with irrational angry shitposting, but ZTD threads are actually sane enough. Surprisingly.
>>
>>343885359
>we
Speak for yourself, newfriend. ZTD has numerous flaws.
>>
>>343883897
>a Deagle brand Deagle
>that fucking small in his hands
Carlos, the man, the legend, the titan
>>
>>343885591
I've been over Kyle's disappearance now that the dust has mostly settled. When you think about it, it makes no fucking sense that he would be there because you can't shift in someone else's body. Aside from, you know. "?".
I understand why it's disappointing and it was definitely a bad move, but I don't resent Uchi. He set the standards way too high with VLR, and I think sacrifices were to be made.
That being said, I hope he can move on and make a fresh new IP in a couple years
>>
>>343884089
>everyone can jump through time

The human spirit is limitless and developes with every passing second.
>>
>999 & VLR don't sell well
>ZTD gets canned
>due to fan actions ZTD gets made after all, but on a low budget
>Uchi decides he wants EVERY SINGLE SCENE IN THE GAME FULLY ANIMATED AND VOICE-ACTED
>half the game gets scrapped as a result

why did he think this was ok
>>
>>343885824
More sales
>>
>>343885809
>it makes no fucking sense that he would be there

Nah, Uchi's just a bad writer for hyping it up and then not having the chops to deliver.
>>
>>343884309

Absolute perfetion. Saved and transported to every timeline via morphogenetic field.
>>
What was originally in Gab's container? I remember something about nondescript medicine or something, but for who?
Was it for bald psychic wizard back when he pretended to be a vegetable?
>>
>>343885824
I also missed running wiseass commentary. One of my favourite things about 999 and VLR was how fuck-giving-less the protags were and the constant innuendo and internal eye-rolling.

I guess what I'm saying is I wanted a visual novel and not a Telltale-but-even-worse-animated adventure game thing.
>>
>>343884375
It's not even just that they had alien tech in 1900s, the fact that Germans and Americans didn't use it for their own purposes, or keep the machine tightly under their own wraps.

Sure, they might not know how to use the machine, but they sure as hell would be too intrigued by it to just let it go after two babies pop out of it in 1900s.
>>
>>343885757
great, now i can't unsee enormous ~3m high carlos on this picture
>>
>>343885824
It'd be fine if the cutscenes were well animated, but the animation is so shit that I can't even take serious scenes seriously.
>>
>>343885824
Come on the cinema mode was far from being the biggest problem. It really grew on me to be honest, and while the animation was janky, the models were great.
>>
>>343885824
>half the game gets scrapped as a result

Source? What was scrapped?
>>
>>343886048
They did keep it under wraps. The only reason the Germans lost it was cause of the war. The more intriguing question was how Delta got a hold of it
>>
>>343886107
>>343886108

I blame the 3DS and it's 2007 hardware
>>

MAINDO HAKKU
>>
>>343886108
The problem with the cinema animations was that it more-or-less preserved the 3-to-4 poses thing each character was given in 999 and VLR. It works for a VN, but in a cinematic thing you expect to see more animations than just a preset few canned ones.

However, that'd have needed more budget.

>>343886236
Yeah, I can buy that Americans get it from Germans after/during the war, but I have no idea how Americans would let it slip under their wraps.

All the dropped plotlines that were specifically being set up for at the ends of VLR and 999.

I would gladly incinerate elementary school children just to be able to see this pasta.

>He's exaggerating everything

in his defence, it is true that every single scene in game was animated and voice acted, even if animation was rather poor.

But yeah, it feels like only the aftermath of the true ending was cut and reduced to written log entries.
>>
>>343886712
and vlr wasn't voice acted?
>>
>>343887067
Voice acting piles on more work, but not in the same way as fully animated scenes do.

In VLR, outside of having to record lines, adding new scenes is more or less simpler scripting since the engine already exists and what not.
